I read that doing an IPA wipe down after polishing is a good step to remove any residue left by the polish, so i went to my local drug store to get more confused about which Isopropyl alcohol to get , thy have 2 types ,

My Question is which one should i go for , and what is the dilution ratio

Never heard it called rubbing alcohol compound, but my bets are the one on the left.
 
basically the same thing, but the dilution ratio is different. One has about 30 water the other around 60 percent water.
 
I always wear nitrile gloves when doing a wipe down. It will dry your
skin out big time. I always use it straight up. It will remove wax. I
often use Poorboys Bug Squash mixed 30/70 to remove residue when
buffing. product/water mix. Does a fantastic job and takes residue off
any trim.
 
haha, what drug store did you go to? Both products shown consist of pretty low levels of alcohol.

Just go to a local CVS, they carry 91% IPA, $3 for 32oz if I remember correctly. You can use it straight or cut it 50/50 with water.

Does that mean 50/50 mix at 40% IPA (right bottle at top) or 50/50 at 70 % IPA (left bottle)?

The reason is I pick my IPA up at Costco (Canada) and they sell 99% IPA.

Because it makes a big difference on a 50/50 mix

At 40 % IPA = 20 %

At 70 % IPA = 35 %

At 99 % IPA = 49.5 %

I have used some of the 99 % in a 50/50 mix to remove some wax on a door jam and it worked maybe to good.
 
I purchsed a half gallon (2 - 32 oz) at Sam's Club - paid less than $5 - 70% stuff which I use straight. I use it in a very fine misting spray bottle which works great. Can do the entire Sonata with a couple ounces.

Question : So after the polish you wipe the car down with IPA, wash the car to remove excess polish in cracks, and then proceed with sealant, correct? Am i close?

I think everyone should remember this. I always try to get 94% mix. This makes the 50/50 when mixing it with water close to the 50 of each product.

Bottom left of the green bottle = Phillippines. So he doesn't have access to a "local CVS"... lol...

OK, I'm a bit confused.

Above I'm reading that the IPA wipe down followed the polish job, but later in the thread someone else confirmed that the IPA removes polish.

So.... why would you spend a bunch of time polishing and then remove it with the IPA? Is this just a typo error?

You want to remove the polish. Polish takes out the imperfections in your paint and after you polish you want the surface to be perfectly clean before you lay down your wax/sealant.

Ah, OK got it. I was thinking wax when I read polish. Sorry for the misunderstanding; I'm new round these parts :)

I guess it depends on what polish you're using.

WG does not recommend or suggest to remove the WG Paint Enhancer Polish prior to WG Sealant 3.0.
 
The 70% is good. Just mix 2:1 for the 50/50 mix. Here's the breakdown (yeah, I learned it here from another detailer that must have OCD like the rest of us, lol):
70 alcohol-30 H2O + 70 alcohol-30 H2O + 100 H2O = 140 Alcohol/160 H2O. Close to 50/50.

I'm not familiar with WG products, is that some sort of paint cleanser/chemical polisher?
