Iron remover for wheels

Will an iron remover product work better on wheels that were probably never cleaned properly since 01 vs a regular wheel cleaner? Maybe I just need to repeat the process with the Wolfgang wheel cleaner several times? I'm going to compound, polish and seal my truck and need to get these wheels clean. The truck was repainted about six years ago so it looks nice but the wheels ruin it. I'm looking at products to use but just don't know what will work. Help!
 
Iron x really isn't intended for rims.In fact it will discolor your rotor and brake components.Try megs wheel cleaner or a acid based cleaner that is more effective than iron x.

Can you suggest an acid based cleaner sold at autogeek? Is megs wheel cleaner different from other products like Wolfgang wheel cleaner? Someone else had suggested acid cleaner but I couldn't find anything described as such. Thanks.

For a acidic based cleaner you would look up carbitre malco or ardex.The closest acidic base is wheel cleaner is from mega.

I use Sonax Wheel Cleaner Plus. Acid free. Stuff is a beast. Bit pricey however, but I am able to stomach that part because of how well it works. It doesn't dry fast either, giving you time to spray all 4 and work around the vehicle at a normal pace.

I plan to get a gallon of Meg's D143 Acid-Free Wheel Cleaner to try soon. Bit more economical then the Sonax, if it's as good that is.

If the wheels are that bad you may need acid, but from what I've seen Sonax clean up, I would pit it against any acid wheel cleaner.
 
I ordered some Poorboys spray and rinse. We'll see how that works. I emailed the folks at Griot's Garage about this. Got the reply after ordering but they suggested to start with iron and fallout remover followed up with their wheel cleaner. I wonder if steam cleaning would work?
 
The only time I use ironX directly on my wheels is when they are off the car. It works pretty damn well inside the barrels.

Iron X is iron cleaner, nothing else.

Sonix does a better job of cleaning.

I do both, remove iron particles then clean.

Wheels are well maintained so usually just wash with soapy water.
