Used Eagle One "Black & Plasti-coat" wheel cleaner as an iron remover the other day on my paint and wheels.

Afterwords I gave a good claying, glaze and wax.

1. But how often should I use an iron remover on my paint?
2. When using an iron remover on your paint does it strip the protective layers off your paint? Wax? Ceramic coating? Glaze? Polish?
3. What about claying the paint as the iron remover is sitting on the paint doing it's job? Using the iron remover as the lubriancte when claying?

**** 3 quastions for wheels?

1. I would say it depends on how fast you get iron particals and industrial fallout on your paint. During the winter months here in Sweden I test every 3months and it's useally okay from spring detailing until the fall detailing. And then 1 time during the winter months. I test behind 1 of the panels behind the wheels. On the whole car it's useally once a year. The side panels and the back of the car 2-3 times a year.

2. On ceramic coating no it don't strip or even degrade it. Then it depends on synthetic waxes and sealants if it can stand up to it or degrade it and how long the protection has been on the paint. Organic waxes useally gets very degraded performance from them or stripped. Then an iron remover that's used both for the paint and wheel cleaning. Often has pretty strong cleaners in them that can make them more aggressive than the just dedicated iron removers. This is also difference between the iron removers how effective they are. And if you wipe in the iron remover it's useally is very more effective and aggressive on your LSP. Apply and let it dwell and rinse off if your LSP would have a good chance to stand up to the iron remover.

3. There are chemical resistant clay bars and clay alternatives. But if you use a combo wheel cleaner and iron remover it's hard to know if the cleaners is too aggressive for the clay or not. So I would go with the same brand of chemical resistant clay bar and iron remover. Britemax and Gyeon is what I know of has chemicals resistant clay bars for their dedicated iron removers. If you want to use the wheel cleaner/iron remover that you have it's not certain the clay bar holds up from Britemax and Gyeon. So trial and error with this.

How is the car used?

Daily driver? Parked outside 24 x 7

Show car? Parked inside, driven to car shows on Sundays

Where do you live? Nice clean countryside?

Next to a heavy industrial manufacturing area?

Around here, after I've done a full-deal detail, I will "mist" on a little iron remover to a horizontal panel like the hood or trunk to "check" for iron contamination. For my cars, I normally only see a few tiny red specs here and there, so for where I live and use my cars, once a year would work and then after, that clay, machine polish and seal.
