All of a sudden yesterday, it starts grinding and shorting in and out if on 5 or higher. Its 11 months old and I can count on both of my hand how many times its been used. Has anyone else had this issue before?

Being semi-new, I'd be looking at the power cord where it enters into the machine. Really doubt it would be brushes etc with such a short amount of use.

You can go to Porter-Cable's web site and find a parts diagram and see how it all fits together.

There's a thread on here somewhere or maybe you can google about how to re-wire it with a thicker gauge cord. If the motor is the issue it would be the first time I've heard someone have issues with a nearly new pc. If that's the case I'd make some phone calls.
