I don't you-tube auto detail videos in general but was looking for a specific answer to see if any of the pro's covered it.
One famous detail 'tuber had some ~pros~ installing PPF on his vehicle. Said 'tuber goes into detail about how PPF can change the look of his countless hours of perfecting the paint prior to PPF install due to how much or how little the texture of the film is,

These PPF installers was doing a final pass on the paint by spaying slip or water and using a silicone blade to blade the car ........

Unless I am looking at this way wrong, but what kind of pro detailer lets someone run a silicone blade on car paint....when you also talking in the same time about -countless hours of perfecting the paint-

Granted PPF IME MASKS some minor level of paint defects.....but I would not be happy if someone ran a silicone blade on my paint. All it takes it one small piece of grit...

So how many threads do we have here denigrating YouTube detailers...and now you think a YouTube detailer should know better?

Anyone with a phone can post a video and just because they have a shop they work at every day doesn't mean they product the highest quality work. Think about all the "pro detailed" cars we've seen with holograms all over them.

You guys that adore you-tube.......it's Larrys-Ammos Video......

Just saying. I would expect to some degree that a hard no on letting another tradesman (ppf installer) blade the car would be a Hard No but I suppose maybe there is some sponsered-unsponsered content going on. aka, promo for Llumar PPF being installed

Well, Sheepstar keeps trying to tell us there is more going on on YouTube than we want to know.

Of course I said that from the beginning when people started taking some YouTube as gospel.

I had to google Sheepstar. That's how far behind I am on the 'tube auto stuff

I dunno about pan, but doesn't everyone seem to listen:approve of LK.
Akin to wayback in the day, when everyone worshipped Paul D - Miracle Detailing

Oh yeah, Paul Dalton. Larry was another one, who worked with a blender, who then had pictures taken of him in a lab coat stirring a vat, and he said his wife was a chemist or something, so all the Ammo products are made in his basement, etc. etc. etc. and he tastes each batch, which is why it's so expensive. I guess this YouTube BS has been going on for longer than I realized. How is Clean any different than Ammo?

They're not. Just saying while I have read blurbs about others in disagreement with Clean, - like in the most recent thread, I can't recall seeing the same like comments about Ammo until your last reply

And yes, those were my same sentiments circa 8 years ago or the like, when I saw in the same lab coat pics .
Your reply just made me check out the site, Those lab coat pics are not there in the current e-store website

I think it was his blog or something. Maybe YouTube, Larry always had that magic about him because he worked on these really cool cars, it was really the same as Paul Dalton--remember Dalton had a laptop and would chart out the paint thickness on the whole car before he started? It's just hero worship. I'm sure Larry is a very competent detailer, and I'm sure his products are good, but it's his showmanship that put him where he is, both in his detailing business and his media/product business.

Detailer's Domain had an open house some years ago, that I went to, and Larry was a featured dancer, um, featured attraction; he drew quite a crowd. I was there to see the intro of the Rupes iBrid Nano...I still don't have one.

But back on topic--if the PPF place had a clean shop, and they had cleaned the car, then I guess it's safe to squeegee, right? What would be the alternative method you would have suggested?

I was expecting this reply ....aka, the facility was clean, the car was clean.......just saying. huge cringe factor for me tho.

When they apply ppf they are already using a boatload of slip solution to aid in install but also to flush out the clean paint already.....but I'm not a pro and just a weekend warrior Joe tho

Here's his bio with the labcoat picture: https://ammonyc.com/blogs/news/larr...1e7KvaQhY5SgE65EFlqrf3KRpO18RY5Vo7ubqPZ27ttBD

I'm not a Larry hater and I have watched a lot of his videos, not anything recently though. As I noted before, I have pointed out from the beginning that doing high quality videos for YouTube takes a lot of time, a fair amount of hardware/software, and most of them are not doing it for their health, they are doing it to promote their business, make money, etc.

Really it's not that different on these forums, there are (were?) a lot of pro/weekend warriors who would post detailed threads about the cars they worked on, with a lot of captioned pictures. Forum members would think those threads were for us other members, but they weren't, they were advertising for their business. I remember asking a kind of off-topic question in one of those threads and getting a PM telling me to delete it that I wasn't supposed to ask questions in their show and shine threads. The purpose seemed to be "if you want to see my work just go to this forum that's full of other professional detailers and you can see how they all praise my work".

I like the guys that spend 5 days sanding & polishing your brand new cars paint (clear) and then top it with a coating in the name of PROTECTING YOUR PAINT!!

My response:

Hey, DUMBASS!
YOU JUST REMOVED 15 YEARS WORTH OF CLEARCOAT with your over-the-top polishing/sanding, plus you lost 36+ hours you could've spent helping someone else and making even more money than you would have obsessing over 1 vehicle

I've saved TONS of Clearcoat explaining this to new customers. Their response is almost always the same:

"Gee, I never thought of it that way........THANKS!!"

Besides saving their clearcoat, I also save them a ton of money and time spent having to Uber or borrowing their spouses car while some dipshit detailer is ruining their new investment

Rant over 😇

As far as the blade you mentioned, you shouldn't have any problems as long as the blade and surface are clean
I prefer a metro vac
That blade won't help you get water from the cracks and crevices
