Is the Rupes 15 and 21 the same polisher just different backing plates?

One has a 15mm throw and one has a 21mm throw... the backing plate does not affect the throw. LHR15 comes standard with a 5" BP and LHR21 comes with a 6" BP however it can be equipped with the 5" BP as well.

They are different machines.

Ahh I figured but wanted to make sure! I just ordered a 21 and am anxiously awaiting!!

Nice! I have the 21 with both 5" and 6" BPs and use it regularly. It is a nice machine, but I had my hopes up a bit too high when all the hype was going on when these machines just came out. I still love it, but don't expect a night and day difference between another DA machine. It is noticeably smoother and corrects very well, but it is not a miracle machine.

Enjoy your new toy!

I'm hoping for a little quieter than the flex and a little less vibration.

You will get both of those things for sure... definitely quieter and definitely smoother.

Hey Zach, do you have your Rupes equipped with the KB mod?

Personally I did find about a 30-40% improvements in time over using the GG6. The Rupes (I have the 21) is smoother, quieter, more ergonomic and corrects faster. I do have the 6" and 5" BP and compared with the same LC flat pads. I am currently using the 5" and 6" MF cutting disc (with FG400) and this combo with the machine kicks butts!!:buffing:

No KB mod... yet. Making a trip to Lowes tonight so maybe I'll pick up a washer to make the switch.

I also like the MF cutting + FG400 combo and also use LC flat pads with great results.

I love the machine, don't get me wrong, I have never 2nd guessed purchasing it... I am noticeably less tired after doing a full correction so it must be less work! haha

The KB mod is great! Today I used the 6.5" Hydrotech pads on the Rupes and they worked like a charm. I was very impressed will how well the performed.

I gotta get a rupes! don't know about this KB mod though...whatever it is...ima search

Google it. There's a thread on another forum explaining it in depth. It's basically a washer between the plate and the machine to allow the pad to spin freely. Helps improve cut.
