This is the story...
A customer came asking for help as it was originally blurred and rough surface too. He respray a clear coat on the panel to hide a scratch but it turns out blurry. So I helped him, I compounded it. It's smoother, but more blurred. Checked it's still 3 mil using PTG. So what is it? Is it the resprayed clear burned or the "real" burned through?

from what i can gather, it appears that previously rough, cloudy clear was painted over with more clear, so, clarifying the clear on top will do nothing more than make the window to the previously cloudy stuff clearer.

the only solution is to get to the level of the clear under the "new" clear and sand that flat, then bring back shine with compound/polish. this is assuming the clear underneath is serviceable.

IMO there is nothing you can do...this was a horrible repaint. There is no clear coat on top of the paint. He just resprayed over the CC. I would not go any further and let him know that is is a horrible paint job

Hey guys, base on my theory it's just the resprayed clear that is cloudy and it can be removed to reveal the shinier clear below it. So I give it another shot, I rub it with rubbing compound then polish off the sanding marks and this test spot gave me a better result. It's clearer! :D

Stay tune for a whole fix. But I can't guarantee a perfect finish. ;)

Good Luck...

But from where I'm sitting:
A rather queer pattern emerges from underneath
the compounded...yet still blurred...area in this
picture when it is enlarged. (Almost looks like a
frosted-up window on a cold Winter's morn.)

No, he mentioned that he only sprayed clear coat.
And after compounding 3 times plus light sanding I achieved this. Honestly this job worth more than 50$ work that I was paid.

Definitely worth more than $50, nice work

In the end, I pass back the car. The owner was delighted by the big improvement. I know It's not worth the price to fix this but..it feels great to overcome challenges we set for ourselves. And we detailers have passion for perfection. Haha

Man do I feel like a BONEHEAD!!!....LOL Beautiful save!!! You are incredibly talented to fix that. I would have did it differently. However, seeing what you did will give me 2nd thoughts to tackle something like that if it was ever presented to me....thanks for showing AGO and me that something like this can be saved....again, beautiful work!!

That was a nice save. Next time tell him to come to you first for advice!!!!! lol

Yeahh..glad to be able to show you guys and help you try tackling such task in future. :)
I didn't give up trying to save this because I don't want my customer to spend too much $$$ for respray so I did my best rescuing it. I know it's nor perfect but at least my customer feels happy. :D
