I've been reading my bottle of Meguiar's UP and nowhere do I see anything about cutting or polishing abilities. It states it's a pre-waxing glaze, and if it's just a glaze, I have Chemical Guys EZ creme for that.

Ultimate Compound has some grit that I can actually feel, the UP practically feels like wax...

Yeah it does. Thats like asking if M205 has cut. There basically the same product, except UP had alot more oils and less cut. The Ultimate Line is catered to the average joe detailer who has no idea what polishing abbrasives are, but trust me they are there. I've used UP throughout my write ups, look them up on my profile.

It's another gem in the Meg's polish lineup. Don't let the term glaze confuse you.

Similarly WG finishing glaze is a polish with fine abrasives.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, the term glaze was sort of throwing me off. I just used UP on my car last week, stripped the paint of all the glaze and sealant previously applied, and polished the paint with the UP on speed 5 with my PC 7424XP, got pretty good results. Silver paint is weird, lol. It seems to absorb light more so than reflect light, but after the polishing, glazing and sealing, I think it looks much better. I used speed 5 throughout the whole process because there were some very light scratches scattered here and there, but they were very hard to identify and point out, so I figured speed 5 would be enough to cut them out. The sliver paint seems to look glossier when out of the light... if that makes any sense.

If I remember correctly, your the one with the new Scion right?

That's me. :xyxthumbs:

Just washed it yesterday and tried out CG Hybrid V7 and my car is already dusty from all the wind and pollen. :(

And to top it off... I think the detergent I washed my wash mitts with didn't full rinse out. I swear, when I rinsed my car, the water was dancing on the paint and once I took the mitts to it, the water just slowly sheeted off. Kinda pissed me off, I just applied two coats of MPL. Sometimes I think the best way to wash the microfiber wash mitts is just run them in a mild wash/rinse cycle without any detergents. They still come out nice and clean and fluffy once air-dried.

Yeah dude, for that reason I highly recommend a dedicated cleaner. I really like Wolfgang's Pad Rejuvenator to clean my pads & any MF products. Theres other good products out there as well, I think Marc made a review on the XMT line as well.

As far as using UP, make sure you do an IPA wipedown or equivalent to ensure you are removing the swirls, not just masking them. UP has alot more oils that will have a masking effect, but they are not there for that purpose. Secondly, its important to do a final IPA wipedown after your done if your NOT using a Megs LSP. In your case, your using the Menz PL. The oils in UP "could" interfere with bonding to the paint, not always. Its good practise to remove polishing oils anyway regardless of brands, just keep in mind that this step isnt required when applying Megs LSP's as they are fully compatible between lines. Also, since you took full advantage of using UP on speed 5, the cutting action of the polish & pad removed your swirls. Now take it down to speed 3, to really burnish your paint to a high gloss finish. I think I talke briefly about this when you were asking what polish to use a few weeks ago.

Below is the link to my review on WG Pad Rejuvenator.

Thanks, I'll probably apply another coat of MPL next time I wash my car. I'm a little insane about my water beading, lol.

As for using speed 3 with the UP, seems like speed 3 does nothing other than apply a coat of wax. I have a PC 7424X, which is considered by some people to not have as much power as a DA like Griot's or Meguiar's.

Trust me, speed 3 when using a ultra fine polishing product regardless of brand will give you notable results vs just using speed 5 and calling it a day. At lower speeds, the oscilating and random action of the DA isnt as erratic as it is in higher speeds. Thus making your pad turn at a smoother more constistant pace.

Your PC does indeed not have the same torque as a Griots, or not near the torque as a Flex or Rupes, thats not to say you cant achieve equal results, it will just take longer. This is why many recommend smaller pads on the PC.

I know your car is new, but if you ever have the need to tackle harsh paint impercections on another car, get Meguiar's MF discs with D300. It will literally BOOST your PC's ability to correct down severe defects a lot faster than with foam pads.

Ok, thanks. :) You're a pretty informative individual. Now you're convincing me to start all over again! lol. At speed 3 with the UP, how many passes should be made?

Way over my head, but thanks, I guess. :)

^^^MSDS sheets usually provide more explicit information regarding: "Ingredients"^^^

the UP "practically" feels like wax...
IMHO...
-The similarities of UP and UC lie in their: abrasives' origins...
-One of their dissimilarities lie in their: %, by weight, of these abrasives.

Thanks a lot for the compliment, I love helping people out regardless of the products they use.

You can do 1-2 passes since you stated you already corrected your paint. Usually what I do when removing light swirls with a fine polish, ill do 4 passes. My first 2 are at speed 5 with moderate pressure, and my last 2 are at speed 3 with little pressure and very slow arm movement. Give it a shot and let us know your results!

I was checking out my car today at work... I think for now, I'm happy with the state of the paint. I'll keep on protecting it and maybe make the fine polishing another project... maybe during another vacation, lol.

A guy at work just got a 2010 Mazdaspeed3... said he wants me to detail it up. Can't wait to talk money, lol... the kid's dad is the owner where I work, and he's totally loaded. Not that I'm gonna rip him off, but I hope he doesn't mind paying decently for a great detail, depending on what he wants.

Yeah dont sell yourself short. For those who actually detail (not the guys who just talk about it online), detailing is hard work. After a full correction im freaking exhausted. Im talking 2-3 stage corrections. Defenitely dont do it for "free". Charge a reasonable price for your work, and adjust accordingly depending on what processes took place. Most importantly, have FUN while your doing it!

Yeah detailing is very labor intense

Hell no, not for free, lol. I was thinking along the lines of $150 to just wash, dry, clay, glaze and seal. Could easily be 5 to 6 hours of work, making it decent money per hour. Now if he wants full machine polishing, I'd say no less than $100 extra, I'd feel even better at $150 extra. He didn't seem to wanna go with machine polishing, but I did say I'll do exactly what he wants done, so I'm not gonna bug him about machine polishing unless he really wants it done.

Yeah detailing is very labor intense

The most time I've spent correcting paint was 10 hours, on my Mazda3. I just spent 7 or 8 hours on my Scion tC, light polish all around, EZ creme glaze and sealed twice with Mernzera Power Lock. So I'll say damn near 20 hours on those jobs alone, not to mention weekly washings that take longer than they used to, lol, and then I'm probably going to do another coat of MPL on the next wash.

So now I've got 3 guys at work who want a detail and my boss wants me to work on his wife's car eventually, so 4 cars in line. His seems serious, but we'll see. One guy has a Lexus SC300 that needs new clear on the quarter panel, wait a while and he wants a $200 detail. I may ask for a little more since I originally agreed on machine polishing the whole car, lol.

Good info ! :dblthumb2: Just finished a car last week doing 2 sectional passes on speed 3 to get a little more pop on sides.

I saw one of your earlier posts about Ultimate Polish.

Awesome! Glad that worked out for you. Makes the time I put into my write-ups worth it when someone else benefits from them :)
