Folks... something weird that I didn't expect happened yesterday. I was removing some swirls yesterday using my PC. I did the following:
1) Menzerna Intensive Polish using orange LC pad
2) Alcohol/Water solution wipedown to remove compound residue/ensure swirls removed.
3) applied Klasse AIO to a section... and it caused scratches when I wiped it off!
This is what puzzled me. I know you're not supposed to use a cleaner wax like AIO after a polish, since it will remove the fillers from deeper scratches/swirls that compounding did not remove. So, since I used a compound, I thought that I would prep the surface with AIO before applying the polish. AIO is a wipe-on/wipe-off product, so after I applied it and removed it, there were scratches from where I wiped it off with a MICROFIBER!!! WHY???? I don't understand. I thought of some reasons.
a) I never really removed the scratches in the first place? I doubt this reason... because I used an alcohol wipedown to make SURE the surface was scratch/swirl free. And it was. Also, the "shape" of the scratches I left matched the motion of my removal via MF.
b) My MF caused the scratches? This might be the most likely cause, but if so, I don't understand why. I made sure the MF I used was new... soft, and free from dirt, etc. I use the same kind of MF's during my alcohol wipedown and during removal of other waxes/sealants. So if it scratched during AIO removal (naked paint underneath it too, mind you...so if the MF should scratch, now would be the time), it should scratch during ANY OTHER time I use an MF. But it doesn't.
c) Klasse AIO incompatibility with the Menzerna finish? too agressive for a "naked" clearcoat? I don't understand this either... because I use (and love) AIO for all my cars, and I've never had any "scratching" issues from using it. Granted, using it after a compound was the first time I've ever used it this way.
So what gives? Could you experts and fellow geeks please help me out? Right now I'm all scared with using my AIO at all
I'll just apply straight sealant (WGDGPS) after buffing now.... but still, what did I do wrong? Why did the scratches emerge?
