Here in Dallas, TX, we had 85 degree weather in the middle of February. Un-heard of but at least we got to buff some cars. The last of May and all of June, every weekend has been around or over 100 degrees, today (Sunday) it's just 97 but the heat index is 102 and the 4th of July it'll be 102.

Enough is enough.

113 today in Tempe,Az. Suppose to be 114 tomorrow. "BUT IT'S A DRY HEAT"

Dave

I buffed cars when it got to 110 here last summer...it wasn't too bad

No pain no gain LOL!! Here is what we do when we have paint correction jobs and we know it is going to get hot.

1- start early, We will try to be there at the butt crack of dawn if at all possible. It will be nice and cool and give you a good 4 to 6 hours before the heat cranks on you.
2- move the vehicle in-doors. Garage, shop, warehouse......anything
3- take your breaks, drink plenty of water. I'll go sit in my van for 5 min. with the A/C and cool down a bit.
4- if all else fails, don't do it. Paint is tough to correct hot. When paint gets hot it gets soft.
You will not do a good job if your hot and uncomfortable.

See the b-17 in my avatar? We did that in the sun. It was April and in the high 70s low 80s but still the heat wore on us. We started on the top side early then moved to under the craft in the afternoon.

Nothing a cheap canopy can't help. If you are detailing outside you should be using a canopy to begin with.

The worst part about the heat in FL is the humidity. I'd much rather have the dry heat that Arizona and Nevada have rather than the unbearable humidity here.

I work on my car in the garage for 5 minutes and I quickly end up being drenched in sweat.

I disagree. I have two $900 canopies that we use side by side with high tops to keep the heat off of us. I wouldn't work under a cheap canopy.

Thats unneeded overhead. I have two $99 canopies and they serve the exact same purpose.

Humidity does suck!! I am from South Florida and now live in 30 miles east of Los Angeles. Dry heat (even if it is hotter) is better than humidity.

BTW, we don't have mosquitoes out here either, LOL - :poke:

I'm guessing a Chicago Electric buff too?
That makes no sense. Just because I don't overspend on something like a canopy doesn't mean I use inferior tools. Thanks for acting like a jerk instead of just accepting my opinion. :dblthumb2:

I forgot that you know everything....

A shop that stays in the 60's sure is nice on days like that :D

Yeah well I have a 100k shop, I wouldn't work under your $900 canopy :D

That was a kind of rude thing to say. You just insulted everyone that can't afford to spend more on higher end tools.

Dang Joe!! Bad week brah?
I've got over 10k in tools and supplies and still use the Harbor Freight rotary .... With the upholstery attachment on it, best $30 carpet scrubber on the block!

A garage with a fan would be nice if not heaven. I do have covered parking at the complex I live in. I run a 100' extension cord out the window. Dang, it's even hot in the shade.

Yep, you gotta start at the crack of dawn and wrap it up around 2pm.

Man you guys are a tough group. My intention isn't to P anybody off. Sorry if I did. I get to add my two cents just like everybody else so......

I found the cheapy canopies to not be stable and they don't last very long. I will not put a client car under one. And we put them up and down sometimes a good 8 times in a day. Times that with all the days in the year and you see where I was gonig. . A cheapy canopy will fit the bill.

100K shop....... I hope to one day!

The Chicago electric was a joke. I own 8 so........ I re-read it and it could be taken as rude or a joke. I still think it's funny. LOL Didn't mean to offend.

And the comment that I know everything..... Have been talking to my wife???

I have a couple 100 dollar tents and your right they are not stable. I strap them down with velcro and large bricks . But it works!

Tell me about it! In my region of the country the heat and humidity drain you to the point of making you feel like you're about to pass out. If I have something to do outdoors, the dawn to 10 a.m. window is what I shoot for. Anything beyond that time has to be in the shade with plenty of water to replenish your system. Be safe. I remember playing football in high school, and practicing in this type of heat in the middle of the afternoon with no water breaks. We were crazy! In pads no less!
