Gots a question. I recently bought my 2000 Grand Am GT back from a friend i sold it to years ago. The seat springs were stickin out the back, so i bought a new seat at a junkyard from a car that had all its windows, so the seat had no weather damage. The seat is in VERY nice shape.

Is there anything special you would do before putting it in the car? I am planning on hitting it with my little Bissel Autocare Proheat, but is there anything that i can do to the seat to get a deeper clean? Im thinkin this will be enough, but im just wonderin...

as i said, the seat is in very good shape, no stains or holes, a very nice used seat with ne wear marks either.

i was also thinking of hitting it with some ARO letting it set, then use the ProHeat no it.

EDIT: SEATS ARE CLOTH....

Sounds like a good score. If its cloth, I would soak it down and scrub the crap out of it with APC and a brush then rinse thoroughly and hang out to dry

If you have access to a steamer I'd use that to sanitize it. I'm sure sitting in the junk yard there has been mice or anything else running all over it.

That's a good idea, maybe spray it down with some Lysol... or something....

Here's an extreme makeover I did on some well-worn seats...

you mean, sit out in the sun to dry, lol. Im prolly gonna do that, but with ARO. I dont think ARO will be a problem. and i only had to pay 50 bucks for the seat. def a score.

no steamer, just my lil ProHeat. But i think if i do the ARO, a scrub, then the ProHeat to help finish it off, i should be good. Then my automotive febreeze to help freshen it up a bit!

Mike, i did forget to mention that the seats are cloth. If they were Leather, i would be a lot better off, lol. I did try and find the 30th Anniversary GAGT Leather seats tho.

Well, if there are no electronics in it, pressure wash it if you want it totally clean. Otherwise, you have a good plan it sounds like.

For what it's worth, I had a customer ask me to pressure wash some power seats one time, and they went back in and worked just fine (he agreed I wasn't liable).

I have been pretty amazed at the color of gunk coming out of seats though when pressure washing. Just be sure you leave it out in the sun for a few days to dry.

i was debating that. the only electronics on GAGT seats are up and down. They are considered manual seats. But they have a power lift. its weird. no other power features. so i def wont pressurewash it.

Sounds good! Either way sounds like you got a steal!

yah. I also got the drivers floormat b/c the previous owner melted it. He forgot he sat it too close to his space heater. Hes lucky he didnt burn the garage down with the car in it, lol. i pressure washed the floomat, it actually didnt have that bad of color comin off of it, so if the floormats arent bad, usually thats a good sign about everything else.

I wish weathertech made the Digitalfit mats for it.

No actually I did mean hang out to dry...lol. You see, I live in a ranch style house. The bottom of my roof line is just above 6ft. Whenever I soak something, I chunk it up on the roof to dry with the quickness

Sitting it out to dry will work also

That will make getting the fabric clean a little harder but persistence and patience... hopefully the fabric is still structurally strong as it can look intact but end up tearing really easy as it gets older...

You'll probably have to customize the mounting brackets, but this isn't too hard to do, just make sure they are bolted down real securely for safety reasons.

That would be cool.

Sometimes you can find used leather seats on eBay, I've found a few pair of Ford F150 Harley Davidson sets up there that I'd like to have but they usually run around $1000.00 for black ones in great shape.

i would have to get out a tie down for my motorcycles to hang this thing, lol. and make sure i use a beam to hang it from, lol. since it sits on the seat tracks, it would be off the ground, so i guess that would be good enough, lol.

hell, people were wanting 200 + dollars for used seats no different than what i bought. Leather set was going for like 400 on ebay. The seat i bought is a shade off, but its a beater style car, so im not too worried. But if my gf doesnt like it, ill go back and buy the pasenger and back seats, lol.
