Here is a long one. I got my PC and Poorboys SSR 1.0 and 2.5 two days ago. Today I washed and then clayed my black miata. I started off with the 1.0 on a white pad. Then went to an orange and still had some swirls and scratches. I then went to 2.5 and a white pad. Still had scratches. I switched to an orange pad and probably got 60% of the scratches out. Some I could feel with a fingernail and gave up on them. The others got better, but I can still see them. My questions are can I use either polish by hand. Should I order the SSR 3.0 and 4 in pads. Should I just keep going over them with the 2.5/orange combo. I have made 3 or 4 passes over the whole car. I brushed the pad after each panel. The original pad was changed 3/4 of the way. I had to keep reminding myself to go slow. I tried to do 1 in per sec. Overall I am pretty pleased with the results. Like a lot of other folks just striving for perfection. Thanks for any suggestions.

You are doing everything perfectly so far. The 4" pads will make the PC more aggressive and will remove more swirls than whatever pads you are using now. The difference may not be worth the extra costs, but that is up to you. As for the SSR3, I'd pass ... it is like liquid sandpaper and wouldn't go that aggressive just to remove a few deep swirls. I would try going over the car again with 2.5 and see what the results are. I would warn you from trying to get 100% perfection, it's almost impossible and can very easily remove too much clear which can cause premature failures. Keep going at it and good luck.

FWIW, what speed were you using? Most people online are torn on whether to use speed 5 or speed 6. I rarely polish on any speed but 6 ... but others prefer to use 5 and still get results. Personal preference.

Thanks for the help. I just came in from doing the hood a 3rd time. I think I got a few more out. I have tried both 5 and 6 on speed. I really didn't see much difference. The miata has single stage paint. The garage floor looks like someone painted a car. I didn't realize how much dust would drop. I think I will call it quits for tonight. Been polishing nonstop for 9 hrs. I did notice there is no marring so far. The previous owner must have used paper towels to clean bird droppings. I'm betting that is where most of the scratches are from. There were several etched places that are much improved. Gonna try one more time this weekend and then go to the 1.0 on white and call it done.
