Good day all, I am just getting started on putting together my business plan for my mobile car wash/detailing business.

I will be doing this part time at first, I wanted some help on the equipment and products that are cost effective I will need to get started.

I am planing on doing basic wash and some one step detailing to start. I am also trying to be "Green/Eco Friendly" and was looking up some of the steam washers don't know if that's a good idea to use less water.

I will take all the help.........
Thanks Feed back please

As for using a steam cleaner. You certainly can opt for this options. A steamer can come in very handy and will use less water. You may also want to check out the rinseless washes that AG has to offer. You use less water than a typical wash and they work great.

I too run a part time detailing business and just realize that it takes a lot of work and dedication to have a successful business. You have to have a full ambition to do the detailing for money and know your customers. That article by Mike is a great starting point as it really lays things out for you and gives you some great advice.

Thanks a lot SeaJay and bobbyG, the steamers are a little high priced. I am going to look into the rinseless washes.

I am also looking in to if I want to start as a Sole proprietorship or a LLC.

How long have you been doing detailing? Reason I ask is that you may want to test the waters and ensure this is something you really want to do before spending the money to get an LLC or sole proprietorship. Last year I did my business as a side business with no LLC or anything as I wanted to get a feel for the market and see if this was really something I wanted to do as a job. It has always been a hobby, but sometimes taking a hobby to the next level and doing it as a job can take some of the pleasure out of it. Which can make it hard to actually ensure your doing a good job.

I recently purchased my LLC here in MA and it wasn't cheap. So, it's an investment and a lot of your time can be taken up with it. During the busy season I work 7 days a week. I have a full time job working 40 hours a week, then I schedule details around that. So, usually 2 or 3 during the week after work and 3 or 4 on the weekends. Keeps me very busy and if you have a family it can make it tough on you and them.

Just some things to think about!

I was in a VW club and detailing and washing our cars has been a hubby, I have a full time Job but wanted to start my own part time business. The reason I asked about the LLC and stuff is I don't want to get in problems with IRS or the Law.
So are you say I should get the equipment and products first and start it at the side and see how it works out before I get the LLC?

That would be my suggestion. I would just start off with friends and family. See if it's something you want to do.

I did the LLC mainly because I own a house and wanted to ensure that if I ever got sued or anything my personal assets would be separate from my business.

Thanks SeaJay, Now do you use the water tank and pressure washer. I order a small generator.

I mainly work out of my home but do offer mobile detailing. I do not have a water tank or generator. I basically let people know that if I'm mobile I need access to electricity. Which I've never had an issue with. Running water is nice, but not exactly needed with all the rinseless washes and others that are available now. I do prefer to have running water especially if I'm going to be dealing with a neglected vehicle that needs a good pressure washing prior to doing a rinseless wash.
