I just got my pc 7424 from AG, and i was so excited. but, then i put a 6.5 inch pad on with a 5 inch backing plate, and jezzzzzz the thing was vibrating like crazy:eek:. the pad was centered perfectly and every thing checked out. It turns out the counter weight is too small! im not trying to bad mouth AG or anything but i think i have the right to be upset, this is really pissing me off because i run a buissnes, i was suppose to detail a maserati this weekend, but now i cant. on level 1 it is pretty bad, but if i step it up to 3, 0r 4, it becomes painfull. i can barely hold on at 5! i hope i havent damaged the machines bearing. i talked to AG BEFORE i bought it and they told me that i did not need a larger counter weight, i bought exactly what they recomended, and now i have to wait on new pads and a new counter weight. I am thinking of buying the edge 2000 pad line(the egg carton ones). i am thinking about buying some blue edge pads for polishing and some red pads for waxing. the shape of these edge pads are a little weird, and i dont know if they are effective because of there unusual shape what do you guys think about these edge 2000 egg carton pads? are they any good? do they work well with the 7424? do they provide even coats?

Sorry, but I don't think AG misled you. I have the same size backing plate and pad combo and have no issues.

In regards to the convoluted pads, I think that's a waste on a PC, they're really designed for a rotary where the convoluted surface displaces the heat better than a flat or concave pad.

yah ag is really good about their customer service, truly. you should talk to them first via phone or something.

I have both the 5" and 6" counter weights. The 6" seems to run the 5" backing plate with a 6.5" pad a little smoother, but they both work. You maybe having some other problem with your pc. I agree with brace1 on the pads. They are called wave pads.

never noticed any difference from counterweights, have both. Less than one ounce difference. Remember its a random orbital not a rotary, as such it spins off-axis and vibrates quite a bit.

I have the two counter weights and can't tell a difference eitehr from what I remember, I also have the Edge Pads which are already well balanced....so who knows, maybe on a backing plate pad you can?

I get some vibration on mine but it's not bad. If you do have a problem with your machine I know AG will take good care of you.

im sure AG will help me out. i doubt its something wrong with the pc, it could be, but then if there was something wrong what would it be?. i have already put the washer in, every thing is set up correctly as far as any one who has looked at it could tell. the main reasons why i want to switch to the wave 6" pads is because they are smaller and easier to center. Has any one had any sort of problems with these wave pads? are they less affective ?

You said you have your own detailing business?

I like the ccs pads better or even the flat pads. I beleive that the wave pads are great for a rotary.

You jumped from I can barely hold it to what pads should I use. You've got me confused and I'd like to help.

D&D auto detailing yes, I do have a detailing buissnes why? what does this have to with my problem if you dont mind me asking:confused:

come on guys, jimmie always tries to help everyone - just the usual misunderstanding because email has no emotion like voice. no intonaton makes it easy to misinterpret.

jimmie, what i was saying is that my pc is having some balancing issues and that i belive that it could be caused by the counter weight being too small for the 6.5 inch pad, because the counter weight that came with my pc is for a 5 inch pad. so i was thinking of buying some edge 2000 wave or edge 2000 DA pads because they have nice system to insure proper pad centering and because they are .5 inch smaller. plus i also plan on buying a 6" counter weight

Vibration is the nature of the beast with a PC....How much vibration you have is hard to tell...I use a 5" in weight on 6.5 inch pads and it vibrates..but not like you say yours does..I even changed weights and not any real difference....

I mainly use 5 or 5.5 in pads now..made a world of difference...

now going to the edge may help..but you would be better off with the flat pads..the wave pads are mostly designed for rotary ..the flats pads will give you more surface contact with less downward pressure wers as the waves you will have to compress them more to get more pad contact on the paint..that will cause the PC to sorta bog and heat up...

another thing is to try the PC with out the handle...and use one hand on the black plastic cover in front of the machine..the removal of the handle does seem to reduce the vibrations...

do not exert a lot of downward pressure and do not over load the pads with polish...saturated pads will cause a out of balance also...not that you did..just a tip...

Hope you get this squared away..

the weight will likely be a product never used, upgrading to Edge system is one we all agree is a nice choice. Vibrations however, are likely here to stay.

Yes the counter weight will not make a difference, no one yet has found any difference between the two. As for vibration... its a DA PC yes it vibrates. Nothing we can do to change that. But if you need help give me a call I am in the office today.
Thanks

I have compared my pc to a friends orbiter, and his does not vibirate nearly as much as mine does.

You need to compare it to another pc. Apples to apples.;)
