I use to know several "show guys" that used windex on black cars and pledge just before showing.

In the 1950s I would wash my fathers car with a bucket of water with 1 cup of kerosene added. This was the worlds first rinseless wash. It would leave the paint with a luster, remove road film, and help prevent rust under mouldings. It did work well.
