This review makes me a little sad to write because I had high hopes.

I saw KATIBA show up on a lot of reviews on youtube. I had a growing interest based on the reviews, i was basically out of Amplify so I finally spent the 20 dollars to buy a bottle of gloss booster.

I will come right out and say I think this is a middling product. I am not a fan, ive tried it a few times in a few different ways and have walked away unimpressed.

I will throw out a few notes.

1. I bought it to use primarily as a drying aide.
2. I heavily value gloss and slickness
3. my current gold standard ceramic drying aid is ADS Amplify, my non ceramic is KCX FSE (because we have hard water)

The good:
It smells nice
The packaging is great if you are into the particular aesthetic they present
The sprayer is "ok" not terrible, not great. Reminds me of the adams sprayers.

The bad:

1. It stinks as a drying aid. I used a solid amount and did not achieve the same slickness form a light spray on a dry panel. I can't speak to the lubricity, but the impartation of slickness and gloss were not up to the standard of something even like adams slick and slide. To be clear, when used as part of the drying process, I could not tell it had been used.

2. The gloss boost is equivalent to a spray wax in my experience, and that is only if you use it on a non white car, applied dry. If you use it as a drying aide, good luck telling the difference.

3. The slickness is only noticeable on a dry application, it is also noticeably less slick than something like Amplify, FSE, or griots ceramic 3 in 1. It reminds me again of a synthetic spray wax. My closest comparison is Adams slick and slide, but i've had atypical experiences and dont find it super slick. To be clear there is slickness when applied dry, its just not comparable to a good ceramic detailer.

Unassessed:

1. Longevity
2. Water beading
3. Performance on a black car.

My bottom line:

I will probably give the bottle away to someone. I definitely do not recommend it as a drying aide as it just doesnt perform. As a standalone QD, it is "fine" but for the price there are a dozen better options on the market. (amplify, Adams graphene, Griots, DIY, Kcx, carpro). This may be harsh, but my personal experience is that one would be better served getting turtle wax from the local box store.
Gloss boosters biggest problem is that its a mid tier product that competes in a market full of excellent products.

Thanks for posting the feedback.

For every true class leader, you go through 9 others that are average at best, virtually unusable at the worst.

This reminds me of P&S Dream Maker and WoWo's Showstopper, even though they are a different chemistry to Katiba. Dream Maker and Showstopper are sold as an extreme gloss enhancer with no protection and no enhanced hydrophobics. The only reason Dream Maker came to market was due to WoWo's being dropped by the Rag Company and Anthony wanted something similar to replace it with. P&S followed through with Dream Maker, which was MASSIVELY hyped by TRC.

When Dream Maker dropped, it was being sold as a complimentary product to Bead Maker. In that I mean it was a way of getting that slick, glossy look of Bead Maker without the possible drawbacks caused by excessive use (drying aid). Dream Maker was said to be easy to use with no streaks, no dusting, and could be used as much as you like without side effects. TRC even mentioned alternating between the two. But................

Showstopper and Dream Maker are junk! The only thing they do right is gloss, everything else sucks. People would often complain about Bead Maker being streaky, but I actually found the reverse. Despite differing technique and towel choice, I could never get Dream Maker to work properly without excessive towel work, quite often leaving a horrible haze behind that was hard to remove. I wouldn't say it felt lubricated either. And even after all that work, the gloss enhancement didn't reflect the additional effort required to deliver a streak free finish. I'd say a traditional quick detailer like Paint Gloss or Last Touch would do the same job with less time and effort.

I don't normally get worked up about "hype", at the end of the day all companies need to market a product to make an income. In TRC's case, their marketing is done via videos and podcasts, which makes them more visible. But when a hyped product doesn't measure up, that's what annoys me.

Sorry to derail your review, but I do understand and relate to your assessment.

I dont disagree about hyped products. I've tried Dream Maker, did the mix with bead maker, etc. It was.. serviceable. Not something I ever bought again. Purely my take, but I find the vast majority of P&S products to be massively overhyped. The only one that ive ever ordered twice was their rinseless wash. I am certainly biased, but I do tend to find TRC more realistic than THOR, though that could just be me ordering better brands.

all that said, Gloss Booster is the first time I feel close to having been straight lied to about a product. The performance for me is that far from what was promised. If it was marketed as a standard spray detailer, and not as a gloss enhancer, drying aide, make your car look "wow" product, id say its overpriced but acceptable, alas the marketers set it up to fail IMO.

I tried the "Clean Maker" trick as well. It certainly made Dream Maker easier to work with, but why should you need to mix two products to make one good one. Same as people proudly proclaiming they mixed Carpro Reload and ECH20 to make EliXir................when you could have just bought EliXir already mixed, and for cheaper too considering how expensive Reload can be.

There is something fishy about THOR that I find super off-putting, especially one of their latest brands and the man behind it. And the way it was set up was a bit of a backstab move to the people who gave them a platform in the first place. Does it affect THOR if I avoid shopping with them or buying their brands? Not at all. But I do prefer to spend my money with companies that have truly made a mark and aren't just another rebranded generic product with a slick label and cult-like management.

TRC do hype what they sell, but then I have also learnt a lot from their videos and podcasts, of which are free to watch or listen as often as you like.

My take is that TRC uses Youtube to supplement its brand. It has a successful business, with lots of recognizable products, that dont depend on youtube hype. I was buying from TRC before I knew they had a youtube.

THOR exists because of youtube. Its all brand and personality. Without their partners hyping products, they probably wouldnt sell, because DIY is nothing withing Ivan, Clean is nothing WIthout Pan, and the imported products have no market awareness without all of them. Without YouTube I dont think THOR exists.

Because of this, there is infinitely more need for THOR to try and hype products because they and their partners are the only source of information for most of them. For example, Clean vs KCX. KCX is an established world wide brand with lots of industry experience, word of mouth and a reputation. Clean is brand new, and only has Pan's name behind it. Same thing with something like Katiba. They and their advertisers have to create a brand for these products. The only product TRC has that I wouls say comes close is ADS. Even then, ADS were detailers first, and their Youtube blew up after they started ADS.

I know this is off topic, I suppose back to the point, I dont trust a brand that doesnt have some more industry usage behind it.

I believe the original owner of Autopia, David Bynon, the father of the Sonus and Ultima brands, even said that it's all hype in marketing detailing products, even though he was one of the guys doing it.

I agree their Gloss Booster is very underwhelming. Do not care for the scent of their products either, too perfumy for me. Their glass "cleaner"/sealant is the other that I've used. It's also just fine and would not purchase again.

Flip side, their Ceramic Coating is the easiest coating I've applied to date, and it has fantastic gloss. Saw one review (that claimed to be ~18 months old on a DD) and the water behavior looked brand new. I applied it to my dad's car so it will see a hard life without routine washing. Curious how it holds up.

Interesting, though it makes sense, most companies seem to have at least something they do really well.
