Lake Country hybrid, hydro, CCS....... how to decide

trying to update my pad selection. i've been using SM Arnold 6 1/2 inch pads and would like to step down to 5 1/2 inch pad setup. after researching LC pads the CCS pads stand out because of the large selection of pads, but the newer hydro and hybrid pads look like a good option as well. can you guys shed some light on the different pads and what would be the best option.

i'm currently using a Porter Cable and will be upgrading to a Rupes 15.
 
I like the Hybrid instead of the hydro. CCS are very popular and they work great too, if you take care of`em they will last you a long!!! time.

For Rupes stay with Rupes pads IMO use the system is made to work together!!!
 
I used the Hydro's and now have the Hyrbids and like them a lot better!
 
Since you are going to have a Rupes, then Rupes pads are the best. Go with the HD orbital pads if you must have Lake Country.
 
I use the CCS and regular flat pads and they work great and are extremely durable if taken care of. I've ordered some of the new Meguiars 5.5" thin pads which just became available a couple days ago. They have gotten really good reviews and there's a big write-up on here by Mike giving them high praise. I'll be using them with my Rupes 21 and I'll try to remember to post some sort of review once I've used them a few times.

I have yet to try either the Hybrid, or the Hybrid. What is it you about the Hybrids over the Hydros?

Hybrid pads are very thick, designed specifically for the Flex VGR 3401. really smoothes out the action of that particular machine.

They are a bit thick for the PC. CCS pads are a bit thick too, but better than the hybrid pads. CCS pads are a pretty good match for SMAT polishes that don't need to break down.

Hydrotech pads are very good on the PC, as are the standard flat pads.

Hydrotechs don't have the durability of the flat pads, but they save on the amount of polish used as almost none actually soaks into the pad compared to the flat pads.

For a PC , the thinner and smaller pads are better. Don't go over 5.5". If you are definitely getting a Rupes machine, stick with their house line of pads or the aforementioned HD orbital pads.

What about Megs new foam discs on the Rupes? Designed for DA use and a thin pad = more transfer from the machine. The Meg MF pads seem to be a winner on the Rupes setup, wondering how the Meg foam discs would suit it.

I've only use the Hex Logic and Megs Burgundy pad on my 3401. Most of my polishes are SMAT, and I've come to a similar conclusion regarding surface textured pads, and prefer to keep those two entities paired together.

I have used a DAT polish (Surf City Garage Beyond Clay) on a CCS pad. It actually seemed to break down and finish without issue, but it still loomed in my mind that there is still undiminished abrasives in those dimples!

For me, the more I work with the Hex Logic pads, the more I like them. They run cooler than the Megs Burgundy pad did, and I like the way the pad "rations" the Polish. Even on the 7424xp, I still prefer the Hex Logic.

I'm ordering some Menzerna polishes within the month. I'll have to see how I like them with the Hex, and CCS pads.
