When I saw Lake Country's Wool Ball Polishing Balls on our What's New page, I knew it was just the tool for the job I've been itching to tackle.
I have a nickel plated Vance and Hines slip on exhaust that I've polished before by hand with a CCS eurofoam pad and Optimum Metal Polish. The results were a HUGE improvement from the original condition, but I knew I would be able to clean it up much more with the right tool.
This was the condition of my exhaust on Sunday morning. To the average joe I'm sure it looked pretty good, but easily not up to Autogeekian standards.
A closer look.
Lake Country has the Wool Ball in two sizes, 3 inch and 5 inch. I opted for the smaller 3 inch.
To use the Wool Ball, I pulled out ye olde Hitachi Hammer Drill.
Because of my type of application, I decided to go with a paste compound/polish combo. Wolfgang MetallWerk Aluminum Compound and Wolfgang MetallWerk Fine Aluminum Polish fit the bill.
Seperation like this is normal.
I just used the same Flathead screwdriver I borrowed from Nick 6 months ago to mix the product before use.
Ready to go!
I started with the compound. The 3 inch Wool Ball fit perfectly for easy application.
First pass.
After a quick wipe.
Initial impressions: It took me longer to open the garage door and unwind an extension cable than it did to compound my exhaust. The small 3 inch Wool Ball made it easy to get behind the exhaust and the compound easily cleaned up the initial oxidation. MUCH easier than working by hand.
For the polish, I used my Meguiars G110v2 DA with an Orange CCS pad. This combo was able to bring the exhaust to a mirror like shine.
Bling Bling
To lock it all in, I used S100's Corrosion Protectant.
After allowing the protectant to cure for 1 hour, I washed the bike.
I was excited to use Wolfgang's Tire and Wheel Cleaner. I recently purchased a new Michelin Pilot Power rear tire and after a couple weeks of riding the tire looks pretty dirty. I wanted to keep the tire looking new except tire dressing are NOT recommended for motorcycle tires. Wolfgangs Tire and Wheel Cleaner is Motorcycle Tire Safe! :xyxthumbs:
Tire BEFORE
Tire AFTER (Wet)
Tire After (Dry)
While washing the bike, it was clear Wolfgang's Deep Gloss Liquid Seal was still present. So a sealant wasn't needed.
So I pulled out my secret weapon. An unmarked container of Dodo Juice Purple Haze Pro. I de-badged the jar to make it harder for neighbors to figure out how my bike looks so good.
I don't have any pictures from Sunday night, but the amount of gloss DJ Purple Haze Pro added was insane. I'm sure the fluorescent lights high above added to the gloss, but I seriously took a few minutes to admire my hard work. No wonder people were staring! All thumbs up :dblthumb2:
Thanks for reading!
