So i get a call from one of my clients in Naples to do a paint correction on his Lambo. He told me it was black so I figured it was going to be complicated to work on like that past Lambos I have worked on. He then explains that Lamborghini claims they have changed the paint on the black cars and that it would not be as soft as it used to be.

Saying I was completely blown away by the condition was an understatement. I can’t believe a car can actually leave a dealership in this condition. Below are some before pictures.

Problems in the paint:
Halograms
Swirls
Deeper Scratches
Sanding Marks
Scuffs in paint
Overspray
Caked compound

Look at how many miles were on it!!!!!

So as you can see I had some work cut out for me. I started off by doing a test section with D300 and Microfiber. It did not come out good, and I was started to worry I did not bring what I needed to get the job done. From this test I learned that Lamborghini had gone from super soft paint to rock hard paint. It was incredible how hard it was. So then I moved on to M101 and Microfiber. It came out a lot better but was not perfect. I ended up using that combo but had to go over most areas multiple times. Some areas I had to use Surbuf and M101 to correct.

Everything was coming along good until I got to the deck lid. The deck lid had tons of DEEP sanding marks in it. Nothing I threw at it even touched them. I called DJ Mayo and Todd Cooperider for some help. They came over with some more supplies. Even they could not get the sanding marks out and get the paint to finish down properly. We used M101 and wool with a rotary but it tore it up so much that even 7 steps of polishing did not make it perfect. We then all determined that I would just have to get the deck lid as good as I could. The only way I would be able to get it perfect would be to do it in an actual shop with lots of products to throw at it.

I was using the Girot’s machine on speed 6 and using a ton of pressure to correct. My pad got so hot that it actually melted itself to my backing plate and ended up exploding from the Velcro back. It was pretty scary when it happened.

I hit everything with M101 and Microfiber. After that step I moved down to D300 and Microfiber to correct the previous step. Finally I finished down with a Black pad and Sonax Paint cleaner. As you can see from the pictures below it came out great and was a HUGE improvement from when I started.

Altogether I had 35 hours into this one. It was a lot of work but I learned a lot about dealing with a paint I had never dealt with before. In the end the car came out amazing.

Thanks for reading!!!!!

Addison, I was sort of surprised to see how trashed that Lamborghini was when you took it in. What a gorgeous car once you got through with it. You've restored it to its proper place on the Super-Car alter... :dblthumb2:

Amazing work Addison! That was a huge turn around for sure.

Thanks Bobby! I was surprised also, definitely had my work cut out for me :)

Saw this write up over on L4P. Incredible work. Unreal that a car would look like that from the dealership.

Wow! That was really sad to see how bad that paint was before. Using what you had on hand. I think Menzerna's Power Gloss with an orange, yellow, or HT cyan pad would have worked wonders on this paint. If I ever get the chance to work on a new Lambo I will have to try it out.
Nice results, and welcome to AGO.:props:

Obviously the dealer has subbed out his new car prep to the guy on the corner with a tent. Stunning trashiness but an even more stunning recovery. Outstanding save!

GREAT job!!!! I think it is very typical for Ferrari and Lamborghini to come from their respective factories with quite a bit of paint damage from wools pads in poor lighting. I feel every new cars deserves a "new car prep". :props:

Wow great job. It's a shame such a nice car needed so much work

Yeah, did the owner pick the car up in the middle of the night....with no lights around....anywhere.....and forgot to remove his sunglasses, geeeeez! If I had saw the car the next morning I'd take it right back and just ask them out to the parking lot and tell them I drove the car home, went to bed and woke up the next morning to take my wife to get larger boobs and walked out to this and say..........."and what!"

Great job on the car:dblthumb2:

What a great save!:dblthumb2:

I live real close to the prep shop for Lamborghini of Beverly Hills and whoever owns it has actually hired decent, well trained "prep boys" to get the cars ready for the showroom. Lots of Menzerna product, boxes of pads and MF towels, and mostly FLEX machines. And they know how to use them. They even do a perfect job on all the Flat Paint Colors from Lamborghini.

You should go over to the dealer that let that out and make him an offer to take care of his important clients. His guys sure can't.

I have seen $13,000 Kia's leave the dealership in better shape than that. They should be ashamed of themselves. You did an outstanding job bringing that hot rod back! Well done.

The owner purchased this car before it was even in the states so he had no idea it was this bad. Black Lamborghinis have always been notorious for having super soft paint. After many complaints they decided to harden up the paint. Well they actually went beyond that and made the paint hard as steel. For me, this made it a bear to work on.

So when the paint used to be super soft it was easy for the factory to buff out defects after painting, but now that it is a lot harder it takes more to get the defects out. The guys at the factory probably just turned up the rotary speed and went to town. When you do this to really hard paint it makes it 10 times harder to finish it down to a perfect finish. Its obvious they had no idea what they were doing but i appreciate the business:)

Amazing turn around.

Ive said it before, but I just do not understand why dealers bother prepping the cars. I mean, what was there intent with that lambo, why were they compounding it in the first place? It obviously wasnt to remove swirls, because all they did was put more in. So why do they do it when there is obviously no logical reason to touch to paint.
