Is it okay to wash my towels at a laundromat? More specifically the one in my apartment building used by a whole bunch of college kids?
There are four cycle options for cleaning, no adjustments to the cylces possible. One uses cold water, one uses warm, the other uses warm and does something different (don't remember what) and then the last is hot. No extra rinse option. These are HE machines.

I guess I'm really anal and cautious about cleaning my MF towels (we all are), so much so I may be too particular. If I get a detergent like woolite or a "free & clear" detergent and use vinegar in the softener port will I be okay?
Btw, I won't be using the dryers; I know they're a no-no.

You will be fine using the laundromat

Wash on Hot

You are fine using the dryers as well, just don't dry them until they are "crispy"

No worries man, we all get it. In fact I'm listening to my MF tumble dry in my machine right now.

You'll be fine using a laundromat - just make sure to double check the machine for leftover socks or anything that might cause lint to get picked up my a MF.

You'll be fine, but if you dry them, do it on low heat or just hang them somewhere in your room.

The funny thing is that I got some hate mail once from an AG member for posting that I use a laundry mat to clean my rags. Im saying this guy went to town with profanity and some serious imagination with his words. I assumed that the guy was either drunk and/or crazy as could be. You will be fine man. I wash about 500 rags a week at the laundry mat. Nothing wrong with it, thats what they are there for.

I would just recommend staying down there while they're in there. Too many times I've come out to see someone's laundry load dumped on the floor because they left it in there past it being done and all the machines were filled.

+1 Well, at my school people are usually nice enough to fold it and leave it on top of the dryer, but I definitely wouldn't go too far when washing my towels.

You're fine, just inspect the dryer first for lost items or other debis.

But please, only wash reasonably "clean" things there. No oil rags, etc. If you have particularly nasty stuff to wash

a.) you shouldn't be using it on your paint anymore anyway
b.) most commercial laundromats will set aside special washers/dryers for that kind of thing.

Unless conditions have drastically changed for the better since I once used a college campus' laundry facilities...
Never mind:
How far is it to one of the town's Laundromats?

Bob

If I was you I would just wash them by hand, begin that you will be focused on the books more now you wont be cleaning your microfiber that much, so it wont be much of a hassle

That's an Extra $1.50 that comes out of the BEER Budget!

a $1.50 is a small price to pay knowing that there may be any left over residual detergent/contamination in the towels that an extra rinse cycle could help remove. nothing more aggravating then towels that streak, lint, or scratch/marr that make you wanna do this...

I will not tolerate unnecessary depletion of the College BEER Budget

If you get streaks...then consider washing twice. I never had an issue

If you live off campus and have a washer/dryer hookup....they can be rented for about $35 a month. if you have a roommate to split the cost with, it may be more economical than the laundromat

I wouldn't be worried about the extra $1.50 as much as I would be annoyed by the 20 something minutes extra running again with no detergent.

There are a few that aren't far, but I've never checked them out because I've used the ones in my building.
