I gave my 2003 325 a good waxing with Meguiars Gold and it looked great. Then last week during the rain storm a lot of leaves fell on to the hood/trunk which lay on the paint for a day. This week when I washed it noticed that the leaved left a outline in the paint that won't wash off or polish out (I tried Megs Scratch X I happened to have).
Any one amy ideas how to restore the finish and prevent future problems?

You need a stronger polish like pb or xmt and a good set of pad and of course a da. It will come right out with this stuff. Scratch x really doens't do much, I think it actually has fillers in it.

before you do all that... try white vinegar ;)

Agree, and wash off with car soap and water. White vineger has a pH of about 3.0.

I agree. Try the vinegar first but it might remove your wax. You should add another coat of wax after washing.

I had the same problem last fall..leaves where leaving outlines on the paint if they sat there over night...I then found out that the decompose process starts the second they leave a tree and they secrete Tannic Acid..that will etch a finish...

it is not to bad if they fall on a dry car..but when it rains and they lay flat on the wet surface the will secrete the acids...this is what helps to decompose them...some are worse than others...

for the remedy I had to repolish the paint to remove the leaf images that etched in the finish...no real damage was done as I removed them fast..was more to the sealant then to the paint...it sorta stains it..

I used Meg's DACP to clean it up and it did it fine...

before going to an abrasive polish, which might be needed, next time add a couple squirts of Poorboys Bug Squash into the wash. Its amazing at what it can do .....

Ok guys I gota try the white vinegar, but for the uninitiated what is Meguiars "DACP" don'r see anything on their site like this?
As for wax any suggestions to help prevent more leaf problems?
