Just a short question. Can leaves scratch a cars paint? I was driving home today and a WHOLE bunch of leaves were just spinning around in one spot, I had to drive through them and they obviously touched my car.

I know theyre just leaves but is it possible?

Although I have never done any scientific testing to see if leaves will scratch a car's paint... I have witnessed countless "high-quality" and rather expensive microfibers cause scratches. Based on the fact that a leaf has areas that are no doubt "harder" than a soft microfiber towel I would have to assume that a leaf could potentially scratch a painted surface.

They won't leave anything deeper than a hand pad a fine polish can't remove.

Thats great to hear, which leads to another question of mine. After polishing, am I able to add clear coat to the car?

Not without significant expense and a trip to the body shop.

The best bet, if you are looking to preserve the film build thickness of your existing paint, is to dial in a safe wash routine that mitigates the potential for damaging the paint. The less you have to polish, the less you will be wearing down the clear coat layer.

Also, ceramic coatings such as CQuartz, Gtechniq, Opti-Coat, etc. can add a substantial layer of protection that will actually add a measurable layer of environmental protection on top of the clear coat.

Alright, thank you. I will most likely opti-coat the car.
