Well I learned my limitations today. I was working on a red 04 vette with moderate to severe swirls. I knew the clear was hard, but I didnt realize how hard. This was BY FAR the hardest clear Ive ever worked on. I guess thats not saying too much since Ive only been doing this for a couple years. But here is a picture after OPT hyper compound 2x with 4" CCS yellow via PC and 106FF with 4" CCS orange 2x. Couldn't pick up the swirls too good with the camera.

Had to tell the customer I couldn't finish it correctly and would have to redo it when I am skilled with the rotary.

yah now you know how I feel!!!

in a sick sort of way, i feel a teeny tiny bit better.....I think...

not really......

It's ok now you have a really good reason to pick up a Metabo from AG and learn the rotary. It takes a lot to post that pic and tell us about it. I was actually relieved when I read the post in total. I was afraid that you were going to say that you used a rotary and burned the paint on the vette. You're a talented detailer and this one obstacle may be the catalyst that opens a whole new rotary world for you.

Lauren, how could you say that :(

Think you misunderstood my thought there...I figured if someone that good couldn't tackle it, well, it made me perhaps a little less inept; make sense? No offense EVER intended, Dan!
Those CC are EVIL!! I am very cclose to giving up on mine. Swirl-wise.:o:o

You gave it your best Dan and better that you knew your limits and walked away! Good for you! Better to be safe than sorry! GOOD CHOICE!

Well Ive got the Harbor Freight rotary, which Ive had very limited practice with. Not enough to be using it on customer cars. But I need to learn it and in a hurry obviously. Ive got a spare hood to practice on. After the hood, it'll be time to practice on my car a few times.

Dont worry Lauren, none taken! Funny thing is, when I started taping the car I was thinking how fun it was going to be to polish. It was an easy car to tape and has a lot of flat panels. So much for that.

Rotary would have definatly knocked that out.

I made the step to rotary a year ago and wont step back anymore. It really isnt that hard to lean, but decently hard to finish hologram free. Dont sweat the rotary, it's a huge time-saver.

This is just a minor setback. You already have the rotary and a hood to practice on. Good for you! Take your time. I know you feel that you need to learn it in a hurry but look at how long you've gone without it. Your details with the pc are awesome. It'll all work out.

Dan, next time you need a hand pm me and i can help. Having four vettes and been using a rotary for 20 years i would be more than happy to lend you a hand.

Heres a picture of the car untouched.

You don't want to know what I just said out loud when that pic came up. LOL
Don't beat yourself up to badly over this one. What the heck was going on with that Vette? Does the owner even like the car?

Don't sweat it Alice, I said the same thing;)
yeah, that's REALLY bad! Make sure you show them how to properly wash and dry the thing when you perfect it.

Yeah, you're right. And thanks a lot! On a positive note, the interior came out awesome.

Haha. I think the owner loves the car, but is a little oblivious when it comes to swirls. How, I dont know. None of us will understand. I think it sees A LOT of car washes.

Dan, sent you a pm.

Corvette's take a little getting used too. Don't let it get to you, you can do it.

Dan, just pm me and let me know and we can get it knocked out, also I can help you out with wet sanding on your practice hood.

Ill definitely take you up on that offer! Unfortunately it wont be for a couple months though.

WOW, that was really bad to begin with, even if you couldnt make it perfect you made one HELL of an improvement. I cant believe that so many swirls would be on a car with a CC that hard... amazing, somemone needs to learn the propper way to treat that vette!

Killrwheels should go over there and put the smackdown on that owner!
