Leatherette protectant

Only found one other forum about this but it didnt quite answer my question.

I have a '11 Jetta with VW's "leatherette" seats. I dont want to put anything on them to give them any sheen. I like the matte factory look.

The dealer said to just clean them with water but does anyone recommend a cleaner that will do better? I dont want any residue to come off or leave any film.

Also, does anyone also know of a good protectant? I dont know if I should use a vinyl or leather protector. Is there a product out there to possibly soften up the seats a little too?

I have the sonus cockpit detailer but am hesitant to use it. I dont know if it will provide the look I want and I dont want to ruin the "newness"

I know this is a lot of questions but thanks!

also any recommendations for the dashboard? My main concern is protecting it from fading. I keep it very clean so I dont think I need a special cleaner for that.

Can you shoot a picture up of the seats? that way we all know what you refer to as "Leatherette"... When I think of "leatherette" I think either vinyl with a grain or a sued type product...

With those I would recommend Megs Aloe Leather Care! I did the Furry A4 with that stuff and it came out great! you need to wait after applying the conditioner then buff to a matte finish!

Thanks for the suggestions. So general consensus: it's okay to use a leather product for fake leather/ leatherette? I just don't want it to react a way that wouldnt be good.

I would suggest using the aerospace protectant on the vinyl (leatherette, or as my German friends and I call it Kunstleder). This will provide good protection with a non-shiny look.

it is leatherette not leather, so you do not need to treat it. You need to clean it. I have a similiar product in my Benz. It is call MB tech.
It a very light tan. I use a Megs quick interior product once a month.
It looks great.

It's actually called MB-Tex (Mercedes-Benz Textured Punctured Vinyl).
Megs quick detailer is perfect. It's a no brainer for everything inside, except glass.

If you want to get them clean, try a Mr. Clean magic eraser, mild rubbing, slightly damp, works excellent on most vinyls and leathers, just check for color fastness first. Finish off with your choice of dressing, or protectant.

Be careful of anything too strong. I have used Mr Clean magic eraser on my white sneaker and it does a great job. It may be too strong. I am not really sure, just be careful.

Einszett LeatherCare is designed for finished leather. Might be just the ticket. If leatherette is a fancy word for "vinyl" or "nagahide" then perhaps Lexol Vinyl-X is just the ticket.

Has anyone used Wolfgang vinyl and rubber protectant? Seems like it is along the same lines as a mothers vlr or meguiars quik interior. Think I might try that...
