liquid vs paste wax

I would go for the paste - then again, I'm biased for paste waxes, as the small collection I've built up would attest to :D

Its all on personal preferance. Ive heard rumors that paste wax doesnt get along with trim as well as liquid, but I havent found too many problems. personally, i'm a fan of paste waxes

As long as the paste wax is a pure finishing wax (no cleaners), there should be little conflict with trim. I have spray, liquid and paste wax; based on my preference and time of year I have all options covered.

I don't really know why, but I've always liked paste wax better. I think I have a little more control on the amount that gets on the pad. But DP Poliseal is a liquid, and I like it.

Paste wax in general has more carnuba in it, if its a carnuba wax. I always think you get a better result with the paste version, like Liquid Souverän vrs Souverän. But if it's a polymer or hybrid product, it usually only comes in one form or the other.

I think paste wax gives additional depth so I'll go with paste wax applied with my dual action polisher....:props:

Btw, what colour CCS pad would you use to apply paste wax? There are so many different ones! Blue? Red?

Paste is a better value. The average consumer gets 3 applications from a 16 oz bottle of wax. Assuming it costs $12, that's $4 per application.

It's not uncommon to get 20-25 applications from a 12 oz can of paste. Assuming $20, and 20 applications, that's $1 per application.

I realize a knowledgeable user can get more applications from a bottle, but that same person will also get more applications from a can of paste.

I prefer paste - it can be applied thinner, easier, and it's easier to control on an applicator.

Plus, paste never runs all over the driveway when I knock the can over like liquid does - when the closure isn't used properly.

BTW - a great tip with a paste wax - dampen your applicator with an instant detailer. The slickness of it, instead of water, means the paste wax goes on thinner, making removal easier and not wasting product.

I'm going to try the Sovereign Liquid Wax next month and see how that goes. I've used the sovereign and xmt360 spray waxes and both were good, although I think I liked the depth of the sovereign a bit more.

And of course there's Collinite 845 liquid wax! Can't go wrong with that.

For those waxes that come in both a liquid and paste form, which one is better?

If I'm using a DA should I go for the liquid? Or give a shot at the paste and a DA for the first time.

Flip a coin.

It's all a matter of personal preference.

If your process/procedure is correct, you'll get the same end result with either.

Call me crazy, but I am a spray wax guy now most of the time. I'll use a sealant, then top with a spray wax, usually optimum or xmt360....and every wash spray wax again. Seems to work great for me, but thats whats great, you find your system what you like and roll with it.

How To Apply Mothers California Gold Carnauba Paste Wax by Machine

After applying Mother's Synwax by machine to the Magnum Project I topped it with Mothers California Gold Pure Carnauba Paste Wax and because I like to put the frosting on the cake by machine I used a Lake Country 5.5" Blue Finishing Pad on a Porter Cable 7424XP and simply placed the face of the foam pad into the tin of wax, blipped the on/off button a time or two and wala... ready to go to town...

How is everyone putting paste on the pad lets say CG Pete's 53? very small opening.

I love the large "M" you put down on the car, "M" is for Mike?

Thanks for the link and the advice, I think my plan will be to put down two layers of power lock and then top with max wax :)

I live in Australia so I need to work all this stuff out before a big order, and don't worry, I'll post the list up when it's nearly complete so everyone can point out what I'm forgetting!

P.S. I already have a DA, a couple of CCS pads, some menz polishes and mothers clay.

I'm guessing M for Mothers? I'm thinking of switching to paste from liquid Collinite 845 , I (as mentioned above) kicked my bottle over in my driveway spilling a third of it out, and even before that the cap won't stay closed properly, turning it too to close it and it "skips" past closed and reopens, now I'm afraid it will spill everywhere.

That being said it couldn't be easier to apply and wipe off! Looks good for my amateur eyes as well.

I'm assuming if the paste wax can opening isn't as large as Mothers can in those pics (for a PC 5.5" pad), for example like the smaller Dodo cans, one takes the paste and spreads it on the pad via your finger to "prime it"? What are your methods?

I use Collinite 845 and I put it into a small empty (thoroughly cleaned out) dish detergent bottle with the push down top. Works well.
