Hi all, I'm Ryan, from Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. I've been browsing the AutoGeek, Autopia and Meguiars forums for some time and joined the Meg's forums last year under this same name. I finally decided to stop lurking and start posting on AutoGeek so I can stop spying on all of you and join in on the conversation.
My detailing hobby/habit started last summer with my Dad's 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. I was washing it and noticed that the wheels looked kinda gunky and grimey, so I went to Walmart and picked up a bottle of Megs Wheel Cleaner. I was so impressed with the results that I purchased several more Megs products like their Gold Class wash, NXT Tech Wax 2.0 and their claybar kit. I was hooked on both their products and on the hobby.
A few months ago I got my own car... well sortof. My Mom purchased a 2002 Hyundai Accent from my aunt for herself but agreed to put me on the insurance as an occasional driver. Well... lets just say I drive it a whole lot more than she does! The car was in decent shape for being 8 years old, except that the only washes that car saw were those nasty drive thrus at the local service station. It had never seen a drop of car wax in its lifetime.
After washing, claying, applying Megs ColorX (an AIO) followed by a coat of NXT and a coat of Gold Class, I stepped back and admired the results - the car looked great under the clouds but it was badly swirled. It was then I had to take my addiction to the next step - machine polishing! :buffing:
I found an awesome Canadian online retailer called eShine through browsing these very forums along with several great instructional videos and articles. I picked up a Porter Cable 7424XP, instructional DVD featuring AG's own Mike Phillips (sidenote: this video is four years old with a lot of old Megs' products. A new version would be great :xyxthumbs
two 5.5" Lake Country CCS pads in orange, white and black, a 32oz bottle of Optimum Hyper Compound, Optimum Polish, a Grit Guard and some microfiber towels. Unfortunately the weather has been terrible and I've also been hooked on the FIFA World Cup so getting the Hyundai compounded, polished, glazed (Megs Deep Crystal Pure Polish) and waxed has been an ongoing work in progress. I'll gladly post pics when I'm done, but so far I'm very happy with the results.
Whew, that was a long intro. Thanks all for reading!
