Maiden Voyage - 1967 Starline Deville in Stuart, Florida

Took a while to get the boat sea-worthy but the day arrived and Robert from Impressions Detailing and myself took out my 1967 Starline Deville this last Sunday on her Maiden Voyage and I'm happy to say the boat ran great and except for a faulty starter solenoid the day was trouble free and a ton of fun!

All loaded up, legal, fully stocked and ready to go...

Idling out as we let the motor warm up and monitor the gages to make sure there are no problems...

Driver's point of view...

Everything is right were it's supposed to be... temperatures good, battery is fully charged and staying that way, oil pressure is great and plenty of gas.

The Tach shows just under 3000 RPM which is around 35 miles per hour...

And looking out the back you can see were speeding along...

Still early, not too crowded yet...

Here's the Sandbar. This is where everyone anchors their boat and then enjoys the warm water and comradery with fellow boaters...

Out on the water you see one cool boat after another driving around enjoying the sunny weather...

Time to pull out... the boat unloads and loads really easy...
StarlineMaidenVoyage037.jpg

Safety straps attached and ready to roll home...
StarlineMaidenVoyage038.jpg

After running in salt water it's important to flush the engine and outdrive with fresh water to help prevent corrosoin...
StarlineMaidenVoyage042.jpg

StarlineMaidenVoyage043.jpg

Anytime water splashes onto the boat you have water spots with salt and other minerals deposited... so it's important to wash everything clean and then wipe the boat dry...
StarlineMaidenVoyage044.jpg

Ready to go again...

A big thanks to Robert for helping me get the boat ready and then showing me how to get around in the Stuart Inlet...

:dblthumb2:

it was my pleasure and I had a great time!

now its time to get mine running and sea trial....haha

How cool!

Growing up in Miami I remember those days. My father had a 26 foot 1970-something formula with an inboard small block chevy in it. I loved every part of it except washing the boat after a long day out in the water.

Yeah that part is kind of a drag, mostly because you're usually tired and even sunburnt... I used a a horsehair brush to be gentle and basically just flowed water over everything and gently washed with the brush and then dried the water off. It's been polished and wax a bunch lately so it cleans up quick and easy...

I'm going to get some anchors and maybe go out again this Saturday, Yancy is helping me to get some lettering for the sides of the boat so everyone can know what it is and how old it is...

The most common question I get is,

What year is that?

or

How old is that?

Sweet! Looks like you had a lot of fun Mike. :dblthumb2:

Right on!

Glad to see you getting out of the indoors... and in to the outdoors!

Exactly... it's so easy to work all the time and look at the beautiful sunny weather outside from inside the office...

I have an iPad with 3G so I can work on the forum from just about anywhere... like the boat anchored on the Sandbar...

I wonder if otterbox makes a watertight case for the iPad? I throw my iPhone in a clear drybag when fishing on my kayak. Great to see you out on the boat. The Starline has come a LONG way since I first saw it at AG.

Boat looks fantastic Mike & you had a top notch 1st Mate with Robert!!!:dblthumb2:

Bump...I hope you don't mind me doing this...I just wanted everyone to see your boat!!:props:

I need to get some lettering done on the side with the year and name of the boat, the most common question I get when I take it out, either at the boat dock or on the water is,

How old is your boat?

Most boaters know it's old but they are surprised when they find out it's 44 years old as of 2011

It's incredible the original Plexiglas windshield isn't cracked, yellowed or crazed...

Needs a stereo next...

Just goes to show the value and life that can be instilled in things when properly cared for. The boat looks great and I'm sure it's a blast to enjoy, with the exception of the follow-up wash and detailing :props:
