Marine Vinyl Seats - Coating?

Ive been down this road once, and did not get good results, or ended up needed to use so much product it was not worth it.

We havea 2020 Axis A22 and a 2019 Supra SA550, both have a lot of vinyl seat interior. Marine seats usually have some kind of coating for mold and stains from the factory which seems to prevent any coating from sticking.

I tried a cquartz leather and it honestly did even seem to bond to the seats. I then tried Gyeon Leather Coat, which causes beading of water much better than Cquartz coating did, but it was not better than simple 303 protectant. I also used almost 1/2 a bottle to do all the seats and it just didnt seem to last very long for the price.

The best thing you can do with marine vinyl is keep it out of the sun when in storage. I had high-quality vinyl on a $300,000 boat, and no matter what I used: 303, plastic sealants, or anything else, the vinyl still rotted out after about three years. I learned my lesson and got covers for all the vinyl in storage. It was kept on a lift in the Florida sun.

I'm with Glen, the marine environment is simply HARSH on everything.

Besides some good covers for the seats, instead of trying to find and use some super long-lasting product I would opt for a simple product with a great reputation and then use it often.

Sorry to hear about your 300k boat seats falling apart in 3years. That would 100% be a warranty claim on these wakeboard boats that push that price tag these days.

It does seem like repeat coating of 303 or similar is the way to go. Along with keeping the boat covered in the lift and dry. Nothing I didnt know was just hoping their might have been some progress or new product to try. Will stick with tried and true.
