Matte vinyl stripes or graphics

Looking for info on how to restore some Matt strips on a 2008 roush black jack.

Strips have become chalky looking and unable to source new kit to replace from roush.

Tried McKees Matt cleaner with no change.

Yeah... those look a tick on the ugly side...

To be honest, I haven't found many "cleaners" that will improve the looks of matte graphics. Mostly all they do is clean the surface and leave it looking like it did before you cleaned it.

Finding something that actually restores a crisp dark black appearance without making the matte surface shiny is the goal.

I just checked the Autogeek.com store, did a search using just the word matte and I was surprised at just how many products we now carry for matte surfaces. Check it out,

Auto Geek- Your Car Wax SuperStore, Car Wax, Auto Detailing Supplies , Car Accessories, Car Buffers Store, We Are Car Care

The last time I worked on a matte surface I think I used the new Dr. Beasley's LS-10 and I thought it did a pretty good job of darkening the color and making it look richer and quite frankly better.

All the stock photos of the blackjack show the stripes more black.

Could the pores of the material possibly be plugged with enhancers from wash products?

Hard to say. Matte surfaces, be they vinyl graphics or paint are chemical and contact sensitive.

There's a couple of things you can try to bring some color and life back to them. From experience, there will not be any one-and-done type products. Once you find a product that improves the appearance you'll need to keep applying it and there will be a cumulative effect.

I've also used SONAX Polymer Net Shield on matte surfaces with good luck.

If you like - I'll send you some things to try and if any of them work, take some pictures and share in this thread. This will help others into the future.

That's a great offer Mike,I've only been at this 7 yrs and really like to use a cautious approach to others vehicles.

Here's what shipped out today,

I would test in this order,

  1. Dr. Beasley's LS-10
  2. SONAX Polymer Net Shield
  3. BLACKFIRE Multi-Surface Dressing

See my article here on what the heck is going on with the pads and x-towels

It's not a huge big deal, in fact it's a really simple, caveman method - but it works for me.

Finished the rear section of stripe up,and left to cure.

Great improvement, another coat would finish it up even better.

Hey 2011 302,

Looks GREAT!

At least much better than before.

Over the weekend I MACHINE BUFFED some flat, matte vinyl graphics and some matte plastic components. These also came out great. I just got behind my computer, still cleaning up after the last 3-day detailling class. As soon as I get caught up I'll share what I did and how I did it.

:)
