Mazda 3 headlight restoration

Art, Nice work man.:dblthumb2: What did you use and what steps did you take? The headlights on wifes van look just like this. I have been a bit scared to do the wet sanding to clean things up. Been reading many posts and many have taken this approach. I have even read a couple that have polished with M015 & M205 combo, then there is the UV protection sealant.
I have not tackled the headlights yet, working on my techniuqes for polishing, but getting there.
If you wouldn't mine could you please share.

Thanks,
Bill

nicely done, headlights look good.

Btw, I have a how to on inserting your pictures in the post to avoid the thumbnails :)

ZMAN, In my opinion, wet sanding is easy, but buffing it out is the harder part.

That's why I said go all the way up to 3000 with zero pressure.

I used a rotary followed by my PC for the polishing, medium to light swirl remover.

1200, 1500, 2000, then buff, PC polish, IPA then seal

Oh only reason I went to light swirl remover was just to test it out btw

Art,
Thanks for the info, based on a lot of other reviews that seems to be the only process that works well. Since the wife and kids will be out of school this week, I hop to tackle this very soon.
I will try my best to post pictures as you had done. I don't have a rotary any longer to polish, just a DA, so I will see how it goes. Just ordered some 3" pads, so that should help also.
What did you use to seal them with? I may need to pick-up something.

Thanks,
Bill

I used Menzerna Power Lock, (it's all I had, hope this is ok)

But was telling him about opti lens and said his next headlight polish he wants to get that.

Yeah the Meguiar's 3000 grit 3" disk are pretty cheap, just sand all the way up to that (3000) and it should work out for you, yeah stick to using the DA, and don't be shy on the tape or water when wet sanding.

Let the wet sanding paper soak, not sure the correct amount of time. I just let mine soak for a few hours. Then squeezed a rag for more lubrication while wet sanding.

Only other picture I wish I would have taken, was a full before picture.

Good luck!

Thanks, I got on hand WG DGP 3.0, I will try and use that and see how it works.
Thanks for the input.
