Doesn't clean tires, even at a 4:1?
Some guys use D101 to clean tires but if you are trying to remove slimy tire dressing it's not a great option. Unless you are using D101 undiluted (which I don't recommend). Unless you already bought D101 I'd recommend waiting and give the new and improved megs citrus APC a shot.
IMO if you decide to use D101 just make sure you are using it in a well ventilated area, covering your skin, wearing Nitrile gloves, using goggles to protect your eyes, and wearing a respirator. If you think what I'm suggesting is overkill, read through the 12 page SDS sheet for D101 and decided what is best for you. Personally, I use such large quantities of both APC's and Degreaser's that I felt it was worth spending a little more money on a chemical with less potential to cause respiratory and gastrointestinal burns or serious skin burns.
A great alternative in my opinion is Nextzett 1z Blitz APC. 1z Blitz is incredibly effective diluted 30:1 and is safe enough to use without gloves (although I still suggest wearing them). Usually using ONR, D114, or Uber Rinseless is all I need for dashes, gauges, sensitive steering wheels, glass, wood veneers, faux trim, etc. But when they don't offer quite as much cleaning ability as I need in the moment, 1z Blitz diluted 30:1 is the perfect step up in aggression.
For preparing exterior trim and cleaning the nasty buildup of body oils and grime off heavily soiled leather & vinyl, Optimum Power Clean @ 7:1 is far better at truly breaking down oily/greasy messes than D101 or even D108 super degreaser yet OPC is still incredible safe and gentle. It doesn't burn and irritate my skin, it doesn't make me cough, it's more effective at removing both water-based and slimy solvent based tire dressings, and can take the place of both my APC and Degreaser by adjusting the dilution ratio.
One thing I know is important is having a "value" APC/degreaser similar to D101 or D108 to use on wheel wells, engine bays, tires, greasy door jambs, nasty interiors etc. I would suggest giving 3D Citrus Degreaser a chance. OPC is expensive at $35 a gallon and needs to be diluted between 3:1 & 7:1 to really maximize it's performance. 3D Orange Degreaser on the other hand is not only incredibly effective at 10:1 up to 15:1 but mostly it's a great value and a safer alternative. Plus it uses natural citrus solvents (D-limonene) which makes it better at breaking down grease and oils than butyl based cleaners. Also, 3D is incredibly forthcoming and makes all their SDS sheets easily accessible on the 3D website.
I will give Mckee's High Intensity APC+ an honorable mention as well. I adore this APC but unfortunately I have no way of knowing if it's any safer than D101. Nick claims it's completely safe and that Mckee's used "smart chemistry" and how it's "non-alkaline" and "doesn't contain high-octane solvents"
I'd like to verify Nick's claims because as you know "the proof is in the pudding"....unfortunately, I'm pretty sure Nick and the folks at Mckee's plan on taking their pudding to grave with them.
