Hey guys,

I've never had to do serious correction before, as I stay on top of my personal vehicle and have never needed a heavy cutting polish, but I'm about to get to work on my dad's semi neglected 5-Series as a belated father's day gift to him and I have a question about Megs M105.

I've used M205 for years but my question is this: if i "spot correct" with the M105 using a DA before M205/Glaze/Sealant, will the results come out blotchy? Meaning, will it be obvious that I only used the heavier cut polish in certain areas? -OR- am I better off getting after the whole body with M105 (even the areas that don't need heavy correction)?

If it makes any difference the paint is Black Sapphire Metallic, so there's really no hiding any tonal differences...

P.S. I'm already heavily stocked with M105/M205 so please don't suggest other products :xyxthumbs:

Welcome to autogeek you could spot correct if you wanted thought you may see some areas more flawless than others
with that said I suggest that you examine the paintwork after stripping it of its waxes(lsp's) then do two hidden test spots one with meguiars m105 and m205 and the other with just m205 then compare the two and see which result you want more then you apply that process to the rest of the vehicle lastly don't forget to clay the vehicle, and if you are to have a defect that don't seem to budge then leave it be

I agree with jamesboy and do a comparison test to see what your eye can discern however i will tell you i have absolutely done worse areas on certain cars with a more aggressive cut product but because i am doing the entire vehicle with a finer polish it renders the areas worked more aggressively invisible to me.

Many many times i have taken M105 on a 3.75" pad and worked a minor scratch or a rubbed corner defect but did not do the entire car with it. Even a 3.75" purple foamed wool pad on a wicked Lincoln Navigator on a few areas recently but the overall M205 on the whole vehicle wipes it away. Yes, the clear is reduced slightly more in those areas but not nearly enough to cause any issues.

And if i can't tell the difference, the client certainly can't!
