Meguiar's 6" Unigrit Sanding and Finishing Discs

Meguiar's new Unigrit Sanding Discs are specifically designed for damp-sanding and can be used with a 5/16" orbit sander. These Unigrit discs offer uniform particle size and placement over the face of the disc and are available in both 3" and 6" sizes.

S61500 -> S6F3000 --> Machine Compounding

The S61500 6 inch Unigrit 1500 Sanding Discs are primarily for leveling surface texture like Orange Peel or for removing heavy surface defects like dirt in paint on fresh paint. Removes material quickly but with good control leaving behind a sanding mark pattern that is quickly and easily refined to a higher level using the S6F3000 Finishing Disc. #3000 Finishing marks are then removed using a rotary buffer.


Finishing Discs --> Detail Industry
S6F1500 --> S6F3000 --> Machine Compounding

The S6F1500 and S6F3000 6 inch Unigrit Finishing Discs are more targeted at for use by Professional Detailers to remove moderate to fine defects. These foam backed discs removes material quickly but with excellent control over the depth of the sanding mark left behind. The S6F1500 sanding marks are easily refined to a higher level or removed with a rotary buffer. The S6F3000 are easily removed with a rotary buffer and a cutting compound.


Air-Powered DA Sanders
These discs can be used with Air-powered DA Sanders like the 3M Orbital Sander.

Meguiar's G110v2
The also fit the Meguair's G110v2 but note there are no electric sanders approved for working around water.

The backing plate attaches to the Free Floating Spindle Assembly

If you choose to use the interface pad, the "M" logo attaches to the face of the backing plate. The "M" side of the Interface pad has the "loop" material while the face of the backing plate has the "hook" material.

The loop backing on the back of the sanding disc attaches to the hooks on the face of either the interface pad or the backing plate.

The 6" sanding discs can also be used by hand using the Meguiar's Hand Pad - S-6HP

I've really been wanting to try something like this. I've read up on your damp sanding article and such. However, I'm still afraid to jump into it because of my experience with wet sanding - when I wet sand, which I'm pretty good at, I turn off the radio so I can hear the sanding and listen for a piece of dirt or something that might cause deeper scratches. Sometimes I can feel it under the paper, but typically I can hear a high pitch squeak when something gets under there. So I'm afraid that if I were to use a power tool, although 10x easier which is what is attractive to me about the idea, I'm afraid I could be doing some damage that I don't know about...and instead of straight line scratches, get squiggly scratches, which would be even worse. I say this more as a question, than a statement - I really want to be convinced to go this route because it would make life much easier!

Great tip about working in silence to hear the dreaded high pitch screeching sound of an abrasive particle trapped between your paper and your paint.

As for trading the issue of tracers for pigtails, for the most part you're always going to get these defects when you wetsand, it's inevitable if you tackle enough real estate.

The benefit to machine sanding is it's,

• Faster
• Requires less labor
• Removes a more even amount of paint over the surface being sanded assuming you use good technique
• Leaves a more uniform sanding mark pattern

I choose machine sanding over hand sanding every time, the only time I will hand sand is when I must hand sand and there's always instances where you need to be able to do both.

One thing for sure, the Griot's Garage 3" Mini Polisher is my favorite sanding tool for small or intricate areas, for edging or for thin panels. Since introducing it in my classes it is always the most used and most popular tool among the students.

It's incredibly easy to control so that makes it easy to sand next to an edge and not sand on the edge, or sand next to a tape line and not sand on the tape line.


Machine sanding is so much faster than hand sanding that it's really worth it as far as your time goes.

If you finish out with #3000, #4000 or now #5000, if you do have a pigtail then it will be shallow and easily compound out.
