I've got a Hyundai Veloster with white paint. Unfortunately, there are several spots where Meguiar's Back to Black product got rubbed into the paint unintentionally. I've washed the car a few times, tried detailer spray + microfiber to get it off and nothing works. Anyone have a suggestion for getting this stuff off? It looks like black smudges around the black trim. Makes the paint look dirty.Thanks.

I would look for the least aggressive polish and hand apply, in a small area you will find if it gets removed or if you need to be more aggressive with a more aggressive polish or into a compound.

It may be best to go to a detailers shop or body shop where they can test a area to see what works.

I wouldnt polish unless needed. Just use a paint cleaner that doesnt have any abrasives in it, your cleaning up a little smear and clear coat shouldnt be removed for that.

Just use a cleaner wax and you'll be fine.

Was it Mothers Back to Black or Meguiar's Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer? Our product is not black in color.

For spots like these I always pull out Duragloss 501. It is awesome at cleaning up spots like that. I even used to it remove adhesive from a dealer sticker on my girlfriends jeep last week and it took it off effortlessly.

Umm...wouldn't that eat into the car's paint?

As a quick wipe.... no, it'll do nothing to the paint. Thinner is for working with wet paint to dilute it for various spraying methods/techniques etc. Now CAN it damage paint... YES!

Start with a Dawn wipe down to strip it. Then tape off the plastic trim and try some hand work in the area. Maybe some hand polishing will be all it needs. ;)

Thanks guys. I'll try the various suggestions and see what works.

I have a white Veloster, too. (Ignore my avatar. I haven't updated it, yet.) I love my V! Anyway, try Duragloss 501. Yes, it's marine\RV polish but don't let the name fool you. I have used it, along with a few other Duragloss products, on my V with excellent results. The Duragloss product line is a diamond in the rough.

I really like the Durgloss line but I wish they would use UV protectant in their products othewise they are quite impressive.

They do use UV protectors..

I find it strange that they display UV protection in their marine product description yet it's not in the description of their car care products.

That is an omission that one has to wonder about for sure. Although I'm willing to bet as durable as their products are that UV is just one of many things they protect against. :dunno:

I'm blown away this weekend by just how slick 951 (that I added polycharger to) turned out on my Caddy. I had my kid (and his buddies) wash it Friday so that I could buff it this week (hopefully). I figured I'd go over it with my new Nanoskin pad and throw some 951 on it while it was sitting in the garage, not knowing when I'd get to it. It's not been detailed or buffed in any way in over a year, and normally sits outside 24/7 in the elements. (Although it doesn't get driven 500 miles a year.) It does get to have a garage space now though because my daughter isn't living here full time anymore. (not sure if I like that or not)

Anyhow... decided to mix a little spray bottle of 'charged' DG 951 AW and try that on it until I could get around to buffing it. It felt amazingly slick right off the bat, (after I let it dry from the Nanoskin/ONR treatment). But today, after sitting overnight.... HOLY CRAP. If I didn't know better I'd swear I'd put M21 on it!:dblthumb2:

Polycharger makes all the difference with a good product like 951. I'm torn between DG Aquawax and Optimum's spray wax (which definitely has UV protection) for touch ups.

Maybe because you see more boats that are oxidized and faded rather than cars on the road? Idk, just a thought. But I've read on here where someone contacted the chemists at Duragloss and they said that all their products contain UV protection.
