I recently purchased Meguiar's Black Wax. Unfortunately I don't have any before pics, however the one below is of a G37 coupe after a quick Meg's Gold Class Wash, Meguiars #7 Glaze, then a thin coat of Meg's Black Wax. Now, I didn't notice until afterwards that the wax is an AIO, so unfortunately it might've removed the glaze once i buffed it off. Oh well, live and learn! Im the MAN

Hi and...:welcome:...to AGO!

Glad to see you post-up a picture of a vehicle that's been given
a complete spa treatment using Meguiar's products...Looks nice. :props:

:)

it's theeeee exact same stuff as turtle wax's blackbox. same smell, same consistancy, except turtle wax's blackbox has more steps for application and removal. surf city garage is doing a black wax now too, which i assume is going to be the same. only brand i know of that doesnt have a black wax that can be purchased in stores is mothers.

Not the exact same stuff. Different brands, different products. Period.

it's the same stuff. different brand yes, but the same chemicals go into making it. i've used both and they both gave me the exact same results. just like armorall is the same as formula 2001 but with a different name.

OK...I'm not going to start an argument, but I know several key differences in terms of ingredients between the TW and Meg's products, as I have discussed with some folks on MOL. Formula 2001 and AA are different too. they may do the same thing, but I can assure you that each has it's own proprietary formula with significant differences.

I gave Black Wax a try this weekend on my dark red car. Easy on and easy off. Hides a bunch of sins on the daily driver. Nice carnauba look with ok slickness. I used a white LC hand applicator to get a little more cleaning power. Overall I was very happy with this single step product. I topped it later with OCW to kick up the slickness and to get the harder reflections that I prefer. I'm not a fan of the tube it comes in.

I've been having good luck with Meg's Black Wax. It's easy on and easy off. Works great by hand or DA. You cant beat the price either.

yes you removed the glaze. hence the Reason you never to wax twice. Twice the amount of work and less wax on your car then if you would have just left it alone.

Also TW and BW are to very different waxes. and TW is crap.
A customer made me use TWBB and it turned all my pads and towels black.
He's no longer my customer, nor are people who use TW.
Meguiar's is for serious car care and TW is for armatures.

^ Totally agree. TW is just cheap garbage, but people continue to use their products just because of the name value. I got a bottle of their Color Magic Black and it was the worst purchase I think I've ever made. I've never had a problem with Meguiar's.

This is my first post and I would have liked to report a positive experience but the Meguiars Black Wax (MBW) did not impress me too much. I washed my impala thouroughly and then gently applied a thin coat of MBW.

My initial reaction was that it looked great and was easy to apply and take off. Provided great shine, depth of reflection, and wet appearance.

Unfortunately the wax did not hold up as expected from a Meg's product. Within two weeks there was little to no beading qualities left. The wax also semmed to allow pollen to " stick" quite easily to all horizontal panels. I believe this is due to the extra "polishing oils" that are in the product. All in all I am very new to this but have had much more lasting results from many other waxes. If short term high shine wet look is what you are after than MBW might be for you.

Anyone else experience this?

Yeah same here durability was something to be desired. Also had a big issue with dust and pollen. Wondering what a good topper could be?

I have ColorX which is also an AIO and i had it for 6 months now and have not used it once yet. I just dont see the point. If i have some light correction to do, i would rather hit it with UP and then seal. If i used the AIO, i know i will have to seal it a couple of weeks later. I actually dont know why i bought it.

I topped MBW a few hours after applying with Optimum Car Wax. The combo is still holding the look after two hose washes and one waterless wash. If you want to stay with only OTC products, there is Meguiars Ultimate Qwik Wax. Both products are easy to use so I end up applying one or the other each month.

What I like about Meguiars Black Wax besides the way it darkens my paint and hides fine scratches is that it is also a cleaner wax. My old routine involved breaking out the polishers every six months to clean the paint and get the fine scratches. I'm an old guy so this was an all day job. With MBW, I get close to the same look in four hours and during the time I'm waiting to apply the topper, I can give my wheels some love and tackle the interior. Basically I use this product as a one step cleaner and glaze and it does an excellent job. I don't have a show car, just a well maintained daily driver.

Here's a comparison from Meguiars on the properties of the new Black and White waxes:

I've not tried it yet, so I can't comment from experience, but it sure looks like a good maintenance product for dark paint and can be topped by a finishing product for more longevity.

I wasn't all that impressed with TW Black Box either. I MIGHT try the Megs to see if it will temporarily hide a few scratches, but I just restocked on poliseal and Max Wax.

Looks like it did a good job on the Pontiac, though.

And welcome to AG.

Perhaps my less than stellar results stem from applying by hand. With all of the polishing oils and mild cleaners in this product it might be better suited to applying with a DA.

Wish I had one to try with.:(

All other Meg's products have been stellar for me.

TW wishes it was the same as Megs...
It is a AIO and the really have the cleaner working, it states that it should be worked with a polisher and polishing pad. otherwise it only fills and acts like a wax.
But in general, AIO never hold as long as a true wax / sealant. I always top it off with a wax or sealant afterwards

I only use Meg's NXT.liquid wax.

Great shine and protection, I wax my cars about every three months and find it holds up that long.

I once used TW Black Box, what a mess , I knew I was screwed half way through the process , I had to throw away all of my MF towel and pads that were used.
