Meguiars has a variety of car wash products. Everything the inexpensive Deep Crystal Car Wash (not available at Autogeek) to the more expensive NXT and Gold Class.

It is easy to think the more expensive is the better product, but is it really? I have tried several different products and they don't seem much different...at least for one wash.

I am willing to try other brands too, but since I have used Meguiars prof products to remove swirl marks and seal, my assumption would be to stay with Meguiars wash products to stay compatible with those products. I don't see a professional Meguiars washing product. If there was that would be a logical choice.

Also let me say I tried to search the forums for this already. It may still be out there but the amount hits I got did not seem relevant.

Thanks

:iagree:

This supports the majority of thinking that expensive doesn't necessarily mean better when it comes to many things in life... :props:

Collinite 845
is a prime example of this... :dblthumb2:

The Deep Crystal Car Wash is an entry level car wash at a low price point to help the average Joe Consumer to transition from dishwashing soap to a dedicated car wash soap. Because a person using dishwashing soap is already spending zero on a dedicated car wash, and likely not very savvy about car detailing in general, moving a person from dishwashing soap to better products is done in steps.

The idea being if they'll spring for the entry level car wash because of good packaging and low price point, if they're happy with the performance of the product then hopefully they'll be open and even curios to try "other products" which move up in quality from the entry level products.

At least that's how the retail world works targeting the mindset of the average Joe Consumer.

I had never thought of that. Thanks for the insight Mike.

I use Meg's Shampoo+ on customer washes. It is very cost effective, and also is a good soap. It isn't the best soap, but it is good and does what it needs to.

Ha ha Mike, a hundred years ago I used to use Classic car wash, and when I couldn't get that anymore, I started to use a Meguiar's wash that I can't even remember the name of right now, it was in a 16oz bottle and was fluorescent pink. Then one day I couldn't find that, and I saw this big bottle of Deep Crystal which seemed to be the same pink color, and said "this must be the same stuff", and as a bonus it was really cheap in the 64oz bottle! When I went to use it, I found out the Deep Crystal wash is uncolored, and the bottle is pink! Wasn't bad stuff really, just a little thin, and it smelled good.

Thanks Mike on the Marketing strategy but the real interest here....is the product any good?

I think the product you might want to try is the #62 which is from the Mirror Glaze line which is what it would seem you used during your correction. As Mike noted, the Deep Crystal is kind of an entry-level wash for less discerning customers. It's been a long time since I used it, but IIRC the lubricity was somewhat less than the more expensive washes.

Thanks Setec Astronomy. Good information. Each prof product may a good choice.

I just did some quick math on the Deep Crystal Car Wash vs Hyper Wash.

Deep: 64oz for $4 at WalMart, Dilution rate 1oz to a gallon or 1:128
Hyper: 128oz for $24 at Autogeek, Dilution rate 1:400

Hyper is 3.125 as concentrated at Deep.

So Deep's cost for the same usage amount would be $4 X 3.125 (amount required to match Hyper) x 128/64 (difference in bottle size) = $25

So in affect if you buy Hyper and use as directed, it is slighty cheaper than Deep. Of course that assumes the Hyper product is giving you a superior wash.

Well at least #62 is the same flesh colored bottle. :props:

If you insist on using Meg's products only, I would just stick to Gold Class since you can buy it everywhere. You may run across #00 soap from time to time, which is a simple soap, but #62 is your pro. choice or as DLB mentioned from the Detailer Line - Shampoo+. If you're shopping on a budget or trying to get more value out of your washing process then Shampoo+ will probably be your best option @ $15/gallon.

I kinda like NXT wash. It smells good and lathers decently. My guess is what car wash implement is probably more important than the wash itself (assuming a dedicated car wash is being used).

Hey Tom! Good to see you on here. Wal-Mart had 32oz bottles of Meguiar's Gold Class on sale for $4 the last time I was there. You haven't been out to our new place, so let that Viper collect a little bit of dust and bring it out. We'll clean it up and take a mini-cruise around amish-town! Maybe race a horse and buggy if we're lucky!

Hey thanks Mark on the Meguiar's Gold.... and yes I need to get out to your new homestead. I sent you an email yesterday. Maybe give me your address so I can find you.

I have learned a lot in the last year about washing cars. And have converted to microfiber mitt and a 2 bucket wash system. To avoid doing a much towel drying, I have a Air Force Master Blaster on my Want list.

I use Megs Gold Class. I like it a lot, and its easy to get a hold of OTC. But I haven't tried anything from AG yet. If I'm gonna buy OTC its Gold Class for sure. But now its got me thinking, if I was gonna get some car shampoo from AG what would I get? . . . . hmmmmm

I remember that stuff! It made a ton of suds and smelled nice. I wonder what it was called...

NXT for me, Gold Class shampoo is more expensive however don't see any added value in term of better look, suds, etc.

Just curious if you have used Duragloss car wash? It can be found at Napa and similar places.
