Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum so this'll be my first post! I recently used Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba wax paste on my car and i noticed that it began to collect dust and particles after a couple of days. Do you think i'm applying too much wax to the car?

Thanks!

Probably not.

Now, let's ask this question:
Will (auto) Waxes attract dust?

{Hopefully the below explanation
will help answer this question.}
__________________________________________

-"We've done a number of tests where we will
strip the hood of a car from all waxes and any
other kind of paint care product,

-then taped off small, square sections to
apply our waxes and competitor's waxes.

-Then we've exposed the hood to the
outdoors, just like you would do if you
parked your car outdoors.

-The results were ALL waxed section
would have more dust on them then
non waxed sections.

-So the dust accumulation isn't a
"Meguiar's" problem, it's a problem for
anything that is applied to the surface
from what our results have shown.

-It's likely a static charge being
induced by rubbing the paint.

-Clear coat paints have a static charge
on their own, rubbing on them could
only increase this.

-Besides that, dust in the air has a static
charge and even if you could invent an
anti-static wax, you can't remove the
static electricity in all the dust in the air in
the geographical location in which you live."

Soveran is the worst in liquid.Great wax and product but a magnet for dust to stick.Bob has this covered.I would take it off and apply 476.

Thanks for the information! Makes sense now that i think about it in that context.

Throw it in the trash and get a good synthetic sealant. Will last longer on a properly prepared surface too. Not to mention the synthetic sealants don't attract nearly as much dust.

Some folks like the look of a wax.

Sometimes it helps to wipe it down with some detail spray on a microfiber to reduce static electricity. Some do this right after wax removal.

What are some good synthetic wax's would you recommend?
For this particular conversation,
I'm going to call/categorize synthetic
waxes as being being Sealants.

With that in mind...
I'll suggest that the following Sealants
are good; in fact: real good!

-Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant
-Finish Kare 1000P
-Finish Kare 2180 Ultra Polymer Sealant
-Meguiar's M21 Synthetic Sealant 2.0

I'll toss Meguiar's Ultimate Wax into the mix.

you will always attract more dust right after you wax, all you have to do is wait a day or two then hit it with a duster and wipe it down with a good waterless wash, problem solved

I'll add a couple more to the above (they're all great products):
Duragloss 105 and 111 (+601)
Menzerna Powerlock

As well as the wipe on/walk away sealants (WOWA's):
Ultima Paint Guard Plus (UPGP)
Wolfgang Deep Gloss Liquid Seal
Optimum Opti Seal
Blackfire Crystal Seal

(Of the WOWA's, I've only used UPGP, and it's a winner)

What's your guys opinion of Carpro Reload as far as attracting dust? The few times I've used it I kinda thought the paint stayed a bit cleaner, longer.. Am I imagining things? Or has anyone else noticed it too?
I'm going to do a full detail on a black Mercedes tomorrow, and I'm looking for something that will attract minimal dust, less than the ordinary sealants.

This, Meguiar's M21, and Duragloss 111.
On occasion, Meguiar's Paint Protect.

Nothing wrong with your Gold Class. While it says Carnauba, it's also fortified with synthetic ingredients. It's marketed to the average consumer, and needs that "plus" from the polymers to deliver some protection.

The biggest problem I've seen from any sealant/wax especially Meguiar's (probably because they are one of the most widely used) is over application. I know a few peiple who casually use their products, but complain that they don't last, and are difficult to remove. Upon further investigation, these guys are using half a bottle on one car!!

What happens is the product never sets up on the paint. The top layer that hazes up, is covering a layer that is still wet. Once all of that wipes off, you're left with some of the carrier oils and maybe some wax, but it never got the chance to set up properly, and be wiped off as the manufacturer recommends. Thus the performance of the product will be compromised. So, always make sure to apply very thin. Not saying that was the op's issue, but it can happen.

One thing you can do to help combat the dust, is to do a final wipe down with Meguiar's M34 Final Inspection. Says on the bottle that it contains some dust repellant ingredients.

Yep, Reload does keep the paint cleaner longer without a doubt.

Cool. The owner said she wants a "full detail" which is something she's never asked for.. Considering I leave the interior 90% everytime I wash the vehicle I assume she's mainly talking about the exterior. It's a 2014 non metalic black E Class Benz and it's not Ceramiclear which should be a good thing for me as I've heard the Ceramiclear paint can be a bit finicky?

My 1st test spot will be with Carpro Essence, but if it doesn't quite get where I'd like it to be my next test will be M205 or Griots Boss Perfecting Cream, most likely topped off with Carpro Reload. Not really going for full correction as the owner's eventually sure to return it to the local car wash to get it swirled up again... Or maybe I can finally convince them to never go back and let them have a perfect black Mercedes Benz, like it should be! Lol.
Either ways, I'm excited.:)
