It's been a while since I've contributed anything to the community, so I decided to do a very quick comparison of the new Meguiar's Mirror Bright wheel cleaner against the outgoing DUB wheel cleaner. They're both color changing wheel cleaners. They're both developed by Meguiar's. It's easy to draw parallels, so let's jump right into it.

Both come in plastic bottles. Both have foaming spray heads. Both have the harsh chemical smell we've all grown to love(?) from these types of products. Both have generally the same direction for use. Shake bottle. Spray liberally on wheel. Allow cleaners to sit and work for a couple minutes without drying. Agitate to remove contaminants. Rinse thoroughly and dry. The only real difference is Mirror Bright (MB) recommends letting it sit for 1-2 minutes where as DUB recommends 3-5 minutes.

Alright, let's try it on our 2008 Acura MDX. I have purposefully not touched these wheels for the last four month, so they're fairly dirty. The left image is the front left wheel using MB and the right image is the front right wheel using DUB. Here's what they looked like before doing anything at all.

And here's what they looked like after spraying on a very liberal amount of product. The MB sprayer did not foam as much as DUB did. The foam that did apply from MB also seemed to break up quicker than DUB.

Both immediately started to change color as the cleaner reacted to the iron contaminants. Lots of purple bleed from all parts of the wheel, particularly the brake discs. MB did dry noticeably quicker than DUB. The image below show the MB product sitting for just two minutes and is almost completely dry already. The DUB product was sitting for 5 minutes, was still wet, and seemed to still be bleeding.

I used various wheel woolies sprayed down with additional product to agitate the wheels. The image below shows the wheel immediately after agitation.

This final image below shows the wheels after thorough hose rinse. I did not dry the wheels for this image.

Overall, I did like DUB more for a couple reason. The foam sprayer is nicer. The product stays wet and attached longer and, therefore, appears to stay active longer. Because it remains wetter, I used less product on my brushes for agitation. That being said, both seemed to delivery similar results when following the instructions. With fairly little work, both MB and DUB removed the large majority of brake dust and other contaminants that had built up on my wheels. If you are looking for a color changing wheel cleaner, I can easily recommend either Mirror Bright or DUB to tackle that job.

All questions, comments, and feedback is, as always, very much welcomed. Thanks!

Great review and comparison!!! Thanks for doing this.

I thought the Mirror Bright would be better than the DUB.. At least I was hoping it would. I didn't like how the DUB doesn't cling as well to the wheel unlike Sonax FE. If MB drips faster than DUB then that's a huge turn off for me...

I was hoping that was going to be the case as well, but it wasn't. Although it felt like it wasn't working as well, the end result were the same. I'd still recommend MB. There are other wheel cleaners I'd also recommend over MB, but they aren't necessarily available through AG, so I'll refrain from posting them.

Thank you for the review. I have been wondering how they compare. Maybe I'll have pick up some more Dub.

It seems to be getting harder and harder to find. Honestly, I would just go with MB as there was no difference in the ending results and it's readily available at this point. IMO, not worth the extra calories to go and find it. If you happen to find DUB on clearance somewhere, definitely pick it up, but it is getting harder and harder to find. You can buy MB right now for only $7.99.

Good review. I am not a fan of the sprayer on each bottle. But you are correct in the clinging ability of both.

You're absolutely right. I would definitely say there are better sprayers out there. I was just trying to keep the scope of the review to these two particular products. I should have probably clarified that in the review. Next time!

I am surprised the Dub cleaner stays wet for you. It dries off on my wheels very quickly.

Just out of curiosity, how did the products smell? I've tried a couple 'color changing' wheel cleaners, and they smelled pretty bad

I was really more surprised with how quick the MB went. Only two minutes before it was ENTIRELY dry. After five minutes, DUB was still wet. What I didn't show in the review was that I did the test again on the rear wheels and it was the same results. I tried my best to make sure I sprayed the same liberal amount of product on both wheels.

Awful. They were both awful. They weren't as pad as IronX or Adam's, but they were still awful. If I had to pick which one smelled better, I would probably go with DUB just because they attempted to hide it with a pina colada scent, but they were both just awful.

They have both readily available at a local store for me. Just bought more sonax though so I'm good for now.

I have been using MB for a few months and I tried the dub a few weeks ago

Mb is not bad but I had issues getting it to cling on customer cars

I feel like the dub did cling and work a little better but I think I can use a whole bottle of both in no time

I'm either trying sonax or Adams soon

I just tried DUB for the first time after running out of Sonax during my winter clean up and forgetting to buy more. for $9, and potentially $9 for two, I'm inclined to use the DUB stuff more. I think Sonax works better, in the sense it clings better thus dissolves more particles, and I also think the Sonax was not as bad smelling. That said for 50% price premium (or more if DUB on sale), I don't think the difference was that major.

My test vehicle was never in horrible shape, so YMMV
