Meguiars Solo Cut & Polish Cream #86 ???

yes... says you only have to change the type of pad not the compound...

Looks like a medium cut polish, designed for rotary use, featuring non-diminishing abrasives.

This is a compound/polish in one.

Actually a really nice product. It was intended for use in body shops to reduce the confusion and number of products needed to do production cutting and polishing with the idea that when you need to cut you use it with a wool pad and after cutting you then use it with a foam pad.

I've used it with good success with Meguiar's Microfiber pads. It's a SMAT product so I'd be sure to do a test spot before buffing out an entire car.

I have some more info, actually kind of interesting info here,

The SMAT Pack - Everything you ever wanted to know about Meguiar's SMAT products...

Lots of info in the article above but here's a primer...

SMAT Timeline
Below is a list of all the current SMAT product in the order in which they were introduced to the market...

  • October, 2006 - M86 Cut & Polish Cream
  • December, 2007 - M105 Ultra Cut Compound
  • December, 2007 - M95 Speed Cut Compound
  • April, 2008 - D151 Paint Reconditioning Cream
  • November, 2008 - M105 Ultra Cut Compound - New Formula: DA Polisher Approved
  • November, 2008 - M205 Ultra Finishing Polish
  • November, 2008 - Ultimate Compound
  • November, 2008 - SwirlX
  • November, 2008 - ScratchX - New & Improved with SMAT
So the SMAT type of abrasive technology has been around at least available to the public since 2006. I think I wrote the SOLO Work Flow Chart when the product first launched but it's been so long I don't remember. It might be the Velocity Work Flow Chart?

:)

Is it rotary only?

That's how it's intended to be used. Back in 2006 when this was still in beta form I used it on a red Viper using Microfiber Pads on a Porter Cable in it worked awesome.
