Meguiar's Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer

This is my first product review on the forums. I took advantage of the nice weather today and cleaned up my Jeep quick. I've used this product a few times in the past and it works well for being a product that can be picked up locally.

I washed the Jeep at the local car wash since my hose decided to break. After returning home the only prep I did to the end cap was a quick wipe down with IPA. I did clean the product off the mud flap afterwards. From past experience this product did not take well to the surface of the mud flaps.

Pros:
- It does work well darkening faded trim
- Easy to apply and dries quickly
- From past uses it does not wash away in the rain

Cons:
- Lasts only for a few weeks then you need to re-apply

I will be ordering the Tuf Shine Black restore kit soon to try something that is supposed to last longer.

From this little review, I kept this product in mind, and eyed this at the local wally world today.

Never seen it before today, so it might be something new they are now carrying.

Anyway, for the $8 or so dollars, I grabbed it, and got to try a little on my beater mobile Kia.

Just grabbed a junky piece of applicator sponge I could quickly put my hands on, and tried some on some black trim. The color-consistency is almost like a hand lotion, but it works in nicely, and gave a nice look to some trim which was a bit on the dusty side.

A few feet away, were the Michelin LTX's on my Tahoe, and they are looking "dry", so I thought what the heck, while I got the applicator in hand.....

I did two tires, they too were pretty filthy, but this Meg's product made the tires look quite nice, about the same ease of use, and look as something like Optimum Opti-Bond Tire Gel.

This might prove to be a nice OTC Tire product was well, which isn't all silicones, and dries without slinging

Not a fan of this stuff, as far as durability go with UTTG, don't waste money on this I have a bottle of it collecting dust at the shop.

X2 it may last me a day or so on my trim but under the good out of the elements it seems to last longer

As for longevity, that's something I of course hadn't gotten the time to test. The bottle says lasts for weeks.

Looking at the bottle last night, I do see on the back that it contains petroleum distillates, so perhaps my bad advice suggesting it for use on tires.

The Michelins on my Tahoe are well past due to see the shredding machine, so I'm not so concerned what I try on them.

Here is an easy tip, FWIW. This product does indeed make the faded color deep and dark, like new. To get it to last more than a couple weeks simply apply UQW over the top of it and it seems to seal in the look for a couple months.
