Whats up guys, CM8 here with another review. This time i'll be reviewing Meguiars Ultimate Protectant. The most common protectants people talk about on here are usually 303 Aerospace or WolfGang Cockpit Trim, lets take a look at what Megs has to offer.

The Product

Meguiars Ultimate Protectant is the latest polymer fortified water based protectant, its designed to protect both interior & exterior surfaces. You might of seen different variations of this product. In this review, ill be reviewing the product that came in the original spray bottle. Megs changed the bottle design to a squeeze bottle due to the fact that average joes thought the spray bottle was intended for interior surfaces only. The fact of the matter is, its strong enough to be used for both. You can use it for vinyl, rubber, tires & plastics. Although as far as tires are concerned, I havent tested it on that and cannot give an accurate durability time.

Price

Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant: $8.99 +/-

Directions

The directions state to apply a thin layer with a soft foam or microfiber applicator. I find that its best to "massage" the product in. If your using the spray, or the new squeeze bottle you will find that the product is a white cream substance that is not runny, and a little goes a very long way. Massage the product in, and wipe off any excess. That's it. Lets see it in action.

The Application

I went ahead and applied the product in my garage to my driver side door trim. I taped off half my trim you so can see the 50/50 difference.

As you can see, the results look fantastic. This was only 1 application. It left my trim a matte dark finish, exactly how my trim looked like when the car was new. No greasy look, and the best part of all, it was DRY to the touch. If your into a "shinier" look, you can apply a second application.

Durability

Now that we have some excellent results, and a great rich dark finish, how long will it last? This is a big one when it comes to protectants as most of us want the best long lasting protection. Below is a snapshot of my door trim exactly 2 Months ago as of today. I had this product in my detail stash since last year, and if your like me you buy products and store them, only to use them months later. I wasnt expecting this product to last this long, but then again its Meguiars, whats not to expect but excellence?

As you can see, my trim is still nice and black. You can tell its barely starting to wear off, for 2 months IMO it looks GREAT. The car stays outside for 8-10 hours a day when my wife takes it to work, hows that for durability. I can honestly say it will probably last another 2 weeks before its completely gone.

Overview

The fact that this product is water based makes it great. It will not crack or damage your trim, plastics or rubber. Its ability to control the level of "gloss" is also a huge plus. It has a fresh scent, and as stated before a little goes a very long way. At the current durability rate, I would be applying this to my trim only 6 times a year. Not bad.

Conclusion

If your in the market for a long lasting protectant, I would highly recommend this product. For 15.2 oz at $8.99, its very hard to beat in looks, durability & price.

Other similar products:
303 Aerospace Protectant 16 oz- $12.99
WolfGang Cockpit Trim Sealant 16 oz- $49.95

Let me know what you guys think!

Nice review. I love Megs Ultimate Protection. I use it on all my interior and exterior trim. I have tried it on my tires when I ran out of my normal dressing. It worked pretty well left a nice shine and had some nice durability lasted a week or two. :xyxthumbs:

Thanks! Yeah most dressings applied on Tires will only last about that time frame, especially water based dressings. You figure tires get put through road debris, brake dust, etc. For this reason I dont use it on tires, I rather use a dedicated tire protectant and keep Ultimate Protectant for interior/exterior trim only.

Thanks for another excellent review! How does this product compare to Meguiar's Mirror Glaze #41? Less greasy I assume??? Less shiny??

Thanks for reading! I think your talking about Meguiar's #40, they dont make a #41. Im not sure, I cant comment because I have not used #40, but from what I read from other users, Ultimate Protectant lasts a little bit longer than Meguiars Hyper Dressing.

:xyxthumbs: #40. I haven't been dissapointed in any Ultimate products that I can think of.

Wow Aaron, fantastic written article with nice description and background on what the product has to offer.

Nicely done.

i love my HP and ASD, have you had any chance to play with those? looks like imma have to pick up a bottle now.
great review

Wow that really darkens up the trim!! Nice review!

Thanks Mike! Yeah this product does have much to offer and IMO a direct competitor to other similar products

great review
Thanks man! I have not tried Hyper Dressing nor D160, but Im going to go out on a limb and speculate that Ultimate Protectant might outlast both. We saw this with Ultimate Paste/Liquid Wax as Megs formulated it as their longest lasting sealant with incredible water sheeting. Why call it "ultimate" if the product doesnt perform as tittled? I dont know thats my take on it, especially being a "consumer" line from Megs, I think they did a great job at appealing to the consumer market with the Ultimate series.

Yes it does and thanks!

also this is a great 2 in 1, saves time for me since i usually clean with APC+ and then add a coat of HP or ASD. So definitely imma pick up a bottle, and its not uber expensive

Very nice review with great pictures, Aaron!!! Thanks for sharing your findings. I really like how it dries to the touch. I have the lotion type and I need to try using it in my interior.

Have you tried using it for the exterior? I don't find it to last after a wash. Wish it lasted longer.

One could never go wrong with what you recommend.

I was looking into dressings to add to my cart tonight and it was a toss up between all season dressing or hyperdressing.

Now I know which one I could pick up locally for cheap. Thanks again.

ASD and HP you can use on the exterior as well, i would still pick some up if your wallet allows you.

Yes you are correct, for exterior trim dont expect it to last not even close to 2 months. Being that the product is water based, if used on exterior trim one or two washes and its done. I solely bought this product for interior trim only. I know that Megs recently released a product called Ultimate Black thats specifically designed for exterior trim, that might be my next product review as it should really hold up even after washes.

Thank you, thats the biggest compliment Ive received so far! I like writing reviews and contributing something back for you guys to enjoy.

Ultimate Black is exactly the same as Ultimate Protectant AFAIK. They just changed the label for marketing purposes.

Yeah I know it's water based but everyone is raving about that product because they said it lasts very long on exterior trim. Mine washes off after a wash even if I prep the surface well. It also produces a more pronounced water streak..

Either way, seems like a solid product for interior application. Did you buff it off after application?

Stoops confirmed, your right. I'll have to test it on the exterior myself. The only exterior trim I have on my car is that plastic peice where the wiper blade arms sit. How many aplications did you lay down?

Like I said I cant comment on exterior as I havent tested it on that, and this review was geared for interior trim only. I applied it thin, and lightly buffed off any excess product which was not much at all if you apply it even.

As far as interior trim is concerned, its a very SOLID product, I got 2 months and still going.

Cincy Colorado, is that Megs Ultimate Protection on that tire? I like that look.

Yes it is. I ran out of my normal dedicated tire dressing and was in a pinch decided to give it a try to see how it looked and it turned out pretty good but I still will use my normal tire dressing DP Tire Gel which looks about the same and is better for the price.
