Wondering if anyone has used or tried to use them with a 3.5" B&S BP? Or do I have to buy the 3" Meguiar's BP? Looking at them for headlight resto's.

I don't think it will end well with that extra .5" clearance on the backing plate after it touches anything without proper padding. You can always use a bigger pad on a smaller backing plate, but not the other way around. I would suggest buying the 3" backing plate to pair up with the sanding discs in order to utilize the "edging technique" when doing headlight restorations, or any polishing in general so you can work up as close as possible to the edges of the surface.

That's what I figured, but sometimes things say 4" and they are 4 1/2 etc.. So I figured I would ask.

Anyway you could measure the plate for me Mike?

Here is the 3" Meguiar's DA plate with the 3" foam interface pad attached. My foam interface pad is wore out and needs replacing. After taking the ruler to the backing plate it measures out exactly 2 7/8". This will allow the 3" sanding paper to cover the plate giving you a 1/16 edge all the way around that covers the faom and plate.

This drill adaptor is something that I grabbed from maybe Autozone. Not exactly sure.

To the op.....take a look at the Megs headlight kit here at AG... at 125 bucks that thing is loaded with stuff. Backing plates sanding disks and pads and interface pads.....great bang for your buck when the next sale comes around.

And a nice little bag to boot.

This is the one Mike Stoops uses at Meguiar's Headquarters down in Irvine, CA

Sometimes he uses the interface pad and sometimes he does not, depending on the application.
