So I'm wondering if anyone has done a details comparison between these two MF pads lines?

I have most of these pads but have only used the Megs Cutting MF pad. Seeing I'm new to polishing I'd like to see what you guys think.

Megs 5" MF Pads

Xtra Cut DMX5: No form on the back of the pad to make it more aggressive
Cutting DMC5: Has a thin med/light density foam on the back.
Finishing DMF5: Has a thick light density foam on the back to make it less aggressive. I wonder how much cut these pads have? They must have some as they talk about "refines surface to high gloss finish". These are also for applying finishing wax.

Lake Country 5" MF Pads

Cutting MF-525-CUT:
Dense orange foam backing
Light Cutting One Step MF-525-OSP:
Moderate density blue foam
Polishing MF-525-POL:
Soft black foam backing

All these seem to have the same foam thickness.

I wonder how these pads stack up when it comes to aggression? Do you think it's 1-to-1? I tend to think not.

Here's my guess on the aggression order:

Megs Xtra Cut DMX5
LC Cutting MF-525-CUT
LC Light Cutting One Step MF-525-OSP
Megs Cutting DMC5
LC Polishing MF-525-POL
Megs Finishing DMF5

Also, do you think one could apply a wax with the LC Finishing DMF5?

I would love to hear from those who have used both of these product lines.

I cut with the BEAST so I don't need microfiber pads.

As to your question about applying a wax with a fiber pad?

Fibers are a form of abrasive. You can quote me on that.

You can probably get away with it on hard paints but if it were me? I'd reduce the potential for micro-marring by simply using a foam pad.

:)

I wrote this years ago, still believe it's true today and will be true tomorrow.

"All other factors being equal, a foam pad will finish out nicer and more consistently on a wider spectrum of paint system than fiber pads"

Don't get me wrong, I was using microfiber pads back in 2006, long before the public knew about them.

:)

The BEAST eh? I assume you mean the "BLACKFIRE FLEX Total Correction Kit""?

Thanks for the other info, I believe this confirms my suspicion that the Megs Finishing DMF5 is in deed a light cutting pad.
