So I've been doing a good bit of headlight restorations and I always use the 3M kit. I've noticed that a lot of the "pro's" are using just compounds and yellow/orange pads. Most of the people I've seen use compounds use M105 and M205. I just bought a 32 oz Powergloss and was wondering if anyone has used this on headlights yet? I know its not a true compound and requires some heat to build up before it starts to really work so would this not work with plastic? Any help is much appreciated!

Menzerna Powergloss is on par with that of Meguiar's M105. I would not be at all hesitant to use it on headlight restorations.

Thanks Bobby! I'll give it a try next time and take pics.

I've done 50+ headlights with pg, freaking rocks, most of the time you won't even need to sand the headlights just use pg, the 3m kit with it's drill attachment is how I started but only could get about 5 sets of lights outta the orange 3" pad that comes in the kit so I bought the meguiars little foam pads and it's been rocking ever since using the 3m drill adapter :)

That's great to hear! So what Megs pads do you use exactly? I have so many of those 3M drill adapters I'd love to not let them go to waste. Also what is your sanding technique if you don't mind me asking?

Not a true compound?? When I got involved in detailing forums some years ago, PG was THE compound that you went to when Meg's #83/DACP wouldn't cut it. PG was the only alternative to rocks-in-bottle compounds like SSR3.

PS Funny story, when I first decided to try Menzerna polishes, I got a bottle of PG, IP, and FPII, and when I was putting them away, the PG was noticeably heavier than the other bottles. (Well, it was funny to me, anyway)

Wow didnt even realize they were 4 inch, they look small when you put them on the adapter, but the velcro fits it perfect if your using the drill adapter outta the 3m headlight kit. Heres the pads
What I use for Power Gloss
Meguiars Burgundy Soft Buff 4 Inch Foam Cutting Pads, compounding pads, buffer pads

What I use for Polishing
Meguiars Yellow Soft Buff 4 Inch Foam Polishing Pads, polishing pad, buffer pad, polish applicator

For sanding I bought the Meg's 3 inch disk, they are kinda expensive when you get them all, but since I do this for a business I needed all the different grits to make sure I had all my basis covered. Honestly you can do any lights with just the 800-1500-PG but its slower if the lights are really bad. I just tape up around the lights to protect the paint/chrome/whatever you dont want sanded, start with the PG, if its not removing the oxidation go to the 800 disk, while sanding look for even ness, once you get to sanding you will know what I'm talking about, if theres still oxidation you will see little pits. Next headlights I do that are bad I'll take in between pics to show the process.

Heres one I know I did with just PG
