So I finally got a chance to get my hands on my mechanics benz. He is in the process of restoring it, as it is QUITE rare. When he got it, the previous owner dumped it on the ground and put some cheap 18" black wheels on it. So he put the factory wheels on it with 1" lowering kit. Had all the grey lower plastic body side cladding painted black, and is modifying an 05 grille to fit it. Still has ALL of the original black/red leather interior. For now I have 2 teaser pics, but I will update it tomorrow with the rest of them finished up. Sorry for no before pics. This is due to the fact that he was in and out quite a bit and I didn't want to be rude and keep stopping. Also the car is not back together yet. He wanted it polished before everything was assembled. The process is as follows:
Wheels cleaned with Sonax Full Effect
Tires cleaned with Auto Magic Red Hot (all I had on hand :-O )
Wash with Chem. Guys CW&C (paint strip dilution)
Clayed with Clay Magic blue
Polished using my DeWalt DA polisher in this order:
M105 on LC Purple Foamed Wool Pad
M105 on LC Orange Light Cutting Pad to reduce haze and any micro marring
M205 on LC White Polishing Pad
IPA Wipedown
Menzerna SF4500 on LC Black Finishing Pad. Only purpose of this step was that extra little bit of pop, otherwise known as "jeweling." This was done using the DeWalt 849x.
IPA Wipedown
BFWD All Finish Paint Protection by hand. Teaser pics were taken after this step.
When I go back tomorrow I will be applying a coat of Pete's 53 by hand. I will update tomorrow after everything is complete.
Thanks for looking and I appreciate any and all feedback. Have a nice day.
