Hey, at a new library in a nearby neighborhood, a bunch of us from work went and met Ray Bradbury, the science fiction novelist, etc., etc. He talked for an hour and a half to a very small group of us about his life and etc and then he autographed books individually.
Sci-fi geeks!
Hee hee

Nice. I've never read his work, are they good? I saw Jim Belushi and Maxi Priest in a bar once, but I didn't get their autographs. :p

We were not allowed to take them, but my friend got a couple and she is supposed to email them to all of us.

Bradbury's books are famous - Something Wicked this Way Comes, Fahrenheit 451, among more other things than I could ever mention.
They are taught in schools.

I never read his books in school or outside of school for that matter, but I did see that movie Something Wicked this way comes. It was a really cool story. :)

There you go then. That wasn't the only one - there was so much info it was incredible.
He knows Hefner, and Disney.....

I envy you Lauren. Ray Bradbury has been one of my favorite authors for over 40 years!! Right there with Issac Azimov and Arthur C Clarke. One of my favorite stories was "A Sound of Thunder", which was made into a pretty good movie a couple years ago. Great story, mediocre CGI effects. But fairly true to Mr. Bradbury's words.
Lucky youare!!

Okay you all have got me curious to know what I am missing. What's a good book of his to start off with??

Something Wicked This Way Comes is a major classic of his. Also, some of the most widely read are "The Martian Chronicles". These were also made into a great TV mini-series (5 parts I think) about 15 or more years ago. Excellent cast (Rock Hudson, etc) and is available on VHS and DVD rental. Do a search for some of his short story collections too, they're great!
Have Fun:)

Hmmm Lauren, Auto Geek and Sci-Fi Geek! I bet you has some more geeks you're not telling us about.;)

Lauren, that is so cool! I love Bradbury. He is an interesting man.

Is this what have to look foward to as I get older, hanging out at the library:D

No, my husband is the sci-fi geek. We just have to teach a novel by Bradbury every year, so....have since I started in this profession.

did you know he also wrote the scripts for twilight zone?

That's so cool! I loved the Twilight Zone! I don't know why I never had to read him in school. I remember having to read Shakespeare, Poe and To Kill a Mockingbird, but nothing by Bradbury. :(

Forgive the slip of the memory, JSR. Stranger in a Strange Land was one of the ones that got me started!!!!;) Or Podkayne of Mars? And lets not dis Masters Burroughs and Verne who started the whole genre!!!!!

What an otherworldly off-topic you've started, Lauren!:D

I am always starting something here, eh? Lol! Thanks, Tam.
Did you know that Hugh Hefner bought Fahrenheit 41 first and published it in three separate issues of Playboy? Because of communism at the time, no one really wanted to take a chance on the novel although Bradbury had already made a name for himself.

If my friend at work who went, the one with the camera, shares her photos like she promised I will post them.
(We were not really allowed to take them unless we were media, which we weren't.... a group of high school English teachers who got elitist passes in.

Lauren;)

Lauren;)

With moderate reluctance, Lauren, I admit to remembering when Fahrenheit 451 was first published in Playboy. Hef published quite a few Sci-Fi authors' stories in serial form back then. I always read Playboy for the articles;) . Though I wasn't aware of the communistic link at the time. And about the time Ray wrote for Twilight Zone, there was also a short-lived series called The Ray Bradbury Theatre. The sixties had a lot of interesting things going on. Oh all right, I even admit to remembering Sky King!

And Lauren, please take no offence, but I was teased a lot as a kid with Tammy, and it still bothers me. So Tam or WhiteBoy (a self-appointed nickname) or most anything else will work for me. Cool? I hope so.:)

Peace, Tam
