Microfiber cloths

Hi all
My first post on this so please be kind.
Do you use same type of microfiber cloths for all aspects of detailing or do you have different ones?
For example do you use same type for removing compound as you would wax?
Obviously you won't want to get them mixed up.

Also are there any special requirements when it comes to washing them?

Finally how do you keep your cloths clean when polishing?
I mean out of harms way from dirt eye so as not to introduce dirt?

Any help on this matter hugely appreciated.

Paint towels are paint towels and never for anything else. They are different than my general purpose towels that never touch the paint.

Mf gets washed with only mf, never fabric softener, and no dyes or perfumes in the soap. I use a free and clear soap.

Dry on the lowest setting your dryer has.

If one falls on the ground it's no longer paint safe. I keep mine in plastic totes all separate depending on type of towel.

Yup, many different MF's kinds/uses.

Ones for paint, glass, drying, interior, wheels, wheel wells, engine compartment, you name it.

Like Coop said, keep them all separate and label the containers if it makes it easier.

Also, when a paint towel is no longer up to par, it can be downgraded to interior, wheels, etc...

Lastly, only wash MF's with a MF specific cleaner or a soap with no additives (also like Coop mentioned).

So when it comes to using say a cloth for removing compound where do you keep it to keep it as clean as possible without risk of contamination ? I'm guessing an apron pocket is not the best idea or? ��

I keep all my microfibers in Xtra large heavy duty zip lock style plastic bags. Whether I’m going out front to wash the car or polishing a vehicle, my microfibers stay protected from dust & debris inside these bags and on top of my detailing cart.

They’re also protected from my cat because she eventually winds up on top of my detailing cart [or just about anywhere near microfiber] to catch a nap. Lol.

Cat fur and microfiber isn’t a good mix during polishing.lol.

don't get too caught up in having to have a zillion towels for every little thing. buy a couple dozen of gold plush jr's which are versatile and can be used for just about anything. keep in mind that the way you launder and dry them will be a determining factor on how long they last. 3d towel kleen seems to get very high praise around here and is inexpensive. wash the microfiber towels in warm water (with the recommended amount of mf detergent) with an extra rinse cycle, and then dry on low heat with no dryer sheet/fabric softener (clean & vacuum your lint trap first before drying if you notice a lot of excessive lint). use a snap lid tote and store your microfiber towels in there. also, you'll want some bulk microfiber towels for the dirtier/non-paint tasks such as wheels, interior, engine, seats, etc. which can be bought at costco (wash those separate from the gold plush jr's)...

So when it comes to working with the polishing machine are you puting microfiber cloth back inside sealed box or bag then out again when needed to wipe compound off? Just wondering if there's a more convenient way to grab a cloth when needed regularly without contamination.
I just know this is the part I'm far more likely to mess up the cloth wanting to grab cloth quickly to see if paint looks ok.

No. Once out the bag, just leave it on car as you work around. And if need, toss used towel in laundry tub and pull out another.
