I have heard that lighter colored microfiber towels are softer than darker colored ones? I ask because I am going to pick up some bulk Sam's Club Towels and they come in Blue, Green, Orange and Yellow. So the yellow or possibly orange would be the best choice for softness?

I would use the Sam's club ones on paint. I have ones made for every part of detailing. I use the one from Costco for everything none paint related.

How many come in the pack at Costco? Was thinking about going to Oreily's to buy non paint related MF, but now might go to Costco

You actually asked if color has any impact on softness. My experience is no, on both fluffy and regular-nap towels in colors including white yellow, blue and black.

Where color helps is avoiding cross-contamination. Black for wheels, white for glass, blue for interior, yellow for buffing off wax, etc. Just have to keep the color code straight.

FWIW...

Yeah, a prominent MF supplier makes this claim, but like you, I have never been able to discern any difference in softness between different color towels.

Hi Drew...

I, too, have never found that lighter colors of MF-towels are softer than their darker counterparts
at any point during their expected life-spans...which, BTW, includes from first purchasing them,
through multiple wash-cycles, and/or until they reach their final "resting-place".

Caveats:
-MF-towels of lighter colors may show stains/staining more readily than darker ones.

-MF-towels of darker colors may "bleed" more readily...
especially during their first wash-sessions.
(This is not so much of a problem if the MF-yarns are dope-dyed.)
