Ok so I know everyone says 70/30 blend is the best and I agree. All the good towels I have and have used that are 70/30 blend are great. I have cheap Sams 80/20 for interiors as well.

My question is if a towel is a 75/25 blend will we(Autogeekers) really be able to tell or see a difference in softness? Will it be any rougher on paint than a 70/30 blend towel?

well just looking at the difference in numbers only a 5% gain and lose in either direction, seems to me they would be about the same, maybe slightly a little stiffer, but i dont think anything that would be noticable.

Ps. Ive been meaning to comment, thats gotta be the best lil pic and quote you have on your backing plate, Im thinking about putting it on mine, so many times detailing cars that reminder would come in handy.

I have an Ultima buffing towel that is 75/25 and its one of the softest that I have, and some 70/30s that aren't as soft. I'm not sure it really matters for softness necessarily what the percentage is when the most it changes is 10%, but maybe there are some properties it affects such as absorption.

I was thinking similar, the difference cant be that much can it?

On the BP I love it. It really helps me when Im correcting paint and it just isnt working or Im getting frustrated.

That is interresting, thanks for letting me know about your ultima towel. I have seen some towels 75/25 at a much cheaper price than some 70/30 and didnt know if there was a reason or not. I wonder what does affect absorption in a towel?

I have towels that I bought from Family Dollar that pass the CD test and do not scratch finished paint, however because of the low price I tend to use them for grunge work of for wiping compound so they are pretty well contaminated so I have about 50 or so Poorboy's DMT towels for wiping off finishing polishes, waxes, sealants and QDs. The DMTs are much softer than the FD towels. I believe the DMTs are 70/30 and I have a few 75/25 towels that I really can't tell a difference with.

Since the 20 or 30% is the polyamide content, which is supposed to be the absorbent part of the towel, I would guess that would be the way to tell. And if that's right then a difference between 20 and 30% wouldn't be 10% - it would be 33%. 33% less absorbent, right?
