When would be the appropriate time and place to use a terry cloth vs. a microfiber.

Terry cloth is not really used anymore only time is maybe when you are doing some kind of metal polishing like exhaust tips or cleaning polisher

ok thanks man and would you recommend an orange or white hexalogic pad with M205 to remove light - moderate scratches assuming you are only gonna go over the car with 1 pad not both.

I usually only use terry towels for interior work to absorb stains out of carpet or fabric, and cleaning polishing/buffing pads on the fly. Some like terry for removing compound but, I prefer to just spritz the area and use a MF. So generally speaking, terry cloth usually has an edge over MF when needing a cloth with some cut and or quick absorbency of grimy liquids.

Reading on the back of both of my bottles of UP and UC from Meg's.. for the by hand application instructions it says to wipe off using 100% cotton Terry towels.. which seems a bit nuts to be because terry towels are pretty rough and can induce scratches.

What about the microfibers that are woven in a terry weave...
(Like a "terry cloth" is similarly woven)...?

Microfiber products can be woven from microfiber-sized yarn consisting of natural, or synthetic materials.
Which type of material makes for the best microfiber car-care products?

People have their favorites.

Some even prefer 100% cotton:
Even when the cotton has a terry weave. Yes:
Even when the cotton is a microfiber-sized yarn.

For cleaning my toilet! Just kidding....kind of. I only ever use them for exhaust tips and chrome if I'm running low on clean MF's.

no one ever answered my question lol orange or white pads when using m205 for light-mild scratches

Try the least aggressive pad and product and do a test spot. If you don't get good results go more aggressive with the pad or product.

M205 is a polish i would use it with polishing pads.

Hope that helps.

If you start a thread and you have an unrelated question I would suggest you start a new thread. You get more feed back that way.

Also I recommend you pick up a copy of Mike Phillips book.

I seem to recall prior posts mentioning that terry cloth can be preferable to MF for cleaning leather.

Just a tip. You're going to need more than one pad to do your car. Probably 4 white pads if you're cleaning on the fly.

Terry for the kitchen and MEG`S#7, microfiber for the cars.I dont even use terry when I polish stainless trim or chrome as it does mar depending on the weave.JMHO.
